Wingless Evo's/Evo's Without Wings | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
I agree, red does attract more attention even w/o the wing. Any bright red car. Black or silver are low key.
I wish I could unbolt the carbon fiber wing and swap it with a smaller wing and be able to interchange them depending on where I'm going or what my mood is -- if the holes line up.

Did you consider the smaller wing instead? It seems naked with no wing at all. Now people will think you drive a 04 RS.

Any resemblence to the RS is purely unintentional, and virtually no one in the world knows about that car, anyway. But if someone thinks I'm driving an RS, far be it from me to rectify the misunderstanding....

RIGHT = what YOU want
The car looks naked - but if you're happy that's all that matters.
The first car I saw in a showroom had the low profile wing, and I liked the subtlety of it. But then a few months later, when I was serious about purchasing, I couldn't find one w/o the c/f wing, and the c/f wing grew on me. I think each wing is fine, but the car looks naked w/o something. It will be a lot easier to wash and wax, tho'.
The wing's interference with vision is all subject to the height of the driver. I love the wing because it sit right where most cars' headlights are, so I find it comfortable to drive with it at night. The sides of the wing are a bit tough to get used to - I keep seeing them in my peripheral vision and thinking they're a pedestrian as I back up.
I've had NO problems with undue attention because of this wing. That's probably because no one knows what the hell I have here in upstate NY - we tend to be about 2 years behind in any automotive trend. Cops don't seem to be interested in me, but that's probably because for the most part I drive within the safe limits of the road - not that I haven't let loose on a few back roads from time to time. I'm sure my region's population density has some bearing on this.

well i personally do not like it, the only reason is. the wing is tradition. its part of the car...its like buying a viper, and putting a neon engine in it, in my opinion..
its amazing that the we're the only country that would want to get the "low pro" wing or no wing.....because MMCA knew we couldn't respect the car for what its worth

I gotta believe the dealer would be able to snag one for you - for a hefty price. Otherwise, you might want to check eBay or this site to see if someone removed their's and are looking to sell it.

Not quite... btw, the c/f wing is not "part of the car", it's an option, an additional cost add-on, at least in this country, just like the sunroof, the 6 CD player, etc. The base Evo comes with the low-profile wing standard (check your window sticker), so if anything, we're messing with the wing that's in fact, "part of the car", and sticking the big wing on. At least that's the story Mitsubishi is telling by the way they laid out the costs on the window sticker.
Poll: Does the EVO look cheap without the wing?
I am currently considering both the EVO and the STI (wow, that's a new one). I have a heavily modified WRX now without a wing. The other day, I was parked next to a base Lancer ES, also in black, and when I took my boss out to lunch, he made the comment that the WRX looks much better without the wing than the Lancer. His comment was that the Lancer looked "cheap". I am not trying to start a flame war here, I am just curious what other people's opinions are. My opinion is that the EVO looks better than the STI with the wing, by far, but I think the STI might have the edge in looks wingless. Opinions? Thoughts? Anyone without a wing care to comment?
Yeah, the big wing is such a part of tradition that the first thing Mitsubishi did when they were saving weight on the RS was remove it. I'm sure the first thing dodge does when it preps a factory race viper is swap in the Neon engine
