I've thought that it was a fluid issue all along, but then again some people with Xs don't have this problem. If it were a fluid issue then all Xs should have the problem. So what the **** is going on? Did mitsu just have a huge run of lemons? WTF?

Mine's notchy and hard to engage at higher rpms, weather hot or cold, I've noticed the faster i release the clutch the smoother the throw seems to be? Overall I would like to see Mitsu do something.

Well, I have come to the conclusion that we are on our own with this one. Mitsu isn't really looking for a fix because they don't care! If they did then why after so many months of the car being out is there no fix? The x has been out in Japan since november, and I'm willing to bet that the j-spec models have the same issue. If not, well the car has been out here since like january, so WTF? I am really starting to have mixed feelings about my car. I love the handling and style, but I don't enjoy driving it anymore because of this issue. One of the great pleasures of a manual car is workin the gearbox, and doing so in my X makes me want to cry. I used to go out in the garage to just stare at it and admire it, now I can't even look at it anymore without getting sick to my stomach.

^Well, you were one of the lucky ones who got a revised tranny. My dealer told me that mitsu made an internal change to the tranny in the latest batch of Xs. This tells me that it is not a fluid issue, but rather mechanical and tat mitsu knows what the problem is and doesn't want to do anything for those of us who spent 35k on the early models.

We were the risk takers and pioneers, supporting mitsu with a new product and this is how they repay us. They will do nothing for us but just ride it out until we complain so much that they wuld rather do something then have to listen to us anymore, and then they'll do the absolute minimum. Rather than give us new trannys, which sucks on it own because I don't want some half-wit tech taking apart my brand new car, they'll have some half wit tech take apart my tranny and replace internal mechanisms.

Wow, I really trust that to be a good solution. I've read so many stories about mitsu techs doing tranny work and then having the cars break like two days later only to have them call it abuse and not cover it. Then we'll have to pay for a brand new tranny and have the same moron who installed the first one incorrectly install the new one. Yay!

I'm so pissed off it's not even funny. It seems ironic; I was one of the biggest supporters of the X and the one that I get is one of the many lemons that mitsu put out and all the haters who finally saw how great the car is went out and bought one and their's is perfect. **** you guys.

I made a thread called "solution to shifting problem" a couple months ago asking for all X owners with this problem to call in and make a case with mitsu corporate to get the ball rolling and force them to realize how widespread this is and that it needs to get corrected.

Nothing happened with it and here we are. If you want to call in and make a formal complaint ask for Ken, who is the service claims manager there. You will probaly get his voicemail and he may or may not return your call. You see what they do is listen to the complaint, tell you that they've spoken to mitsu techline and have been told that this is normal for the tranny to do this.

They will then close the case and when you call back asking if there has been a fix, they will tell you that they can reopen the case and to wait for a call from Ken. Ken will then never call you back and just hope that you go away. They don't care and neither do the dealers (especially if you didn't buy your car there). Do call in though, I would love to flood Kens voicemail with complaints all about the same issue, that A-hole. Their number is 888-648-7820. Good luck buddy.

Thank you. I will probably call them every single day for the next few weeks.

The woes of buying a FIRST YEAR model...

If it pisses you off THAT bad, just trade the car in and get an 09'. You won't lose too much money and you can consider the extra money spent as a mod.

Well I had a tranny replacement, its still doin it, just not as bad, i now have around 2200 miles, and Im with you, it pains me to see that with my optinos i paid 39000 plus tax for this heap, and well mitsu doesnt care. My husband says when the warranty goes out hell put a new tranny in it, and it should take as long seeing it prolly only has about 1/2 to 2/3 the bolts it used to. I hated puttin my car in there for the local joe shmo whos gettin paid like 2 hours to do it shove it all together, .... well just have to wait and see. Also I think alot of people including my self, are slackin on reporting and re reporting the issues because we ARE GETTING NO WHERE QUICK, but we do need to report it and re report it if we ever want mitsu to step up and do anything about it.

That's what I've been thinking about, but I would need to see a list of things that were changed and of course, drive the new one and mke sure that it doesn't have the same problems. You're right though, the "woes of buying a first year car" suck. I had a first year STi and it too had problems. Clunking rear struts that were deemed defective and had to be replaced 3 times.

On the third time around they started clunking again and when I took it back subaru told me to **** off. Creaking, squeeking dash panels, the list goes on. I will say this though, I would take the defective strut issue any day over a tranny problem. At least it's an easy fix; I could've just gotten coilovers and been done with it. Every first year carhas issues but this is pushing it. Love the car, hate the tranny issue with a passion.

If the 09's have the same problems, then screw Mitsu, and trade your X in somewhere else..
