^^I was thinking of said upgrades excluding the fluid. Would there be any warranty issues using this fluid over stock with a GSR?

Funny thing is when I bought my car and took it for a test drive they told me that the notchiness is completely normal becuase it's a rally car...

Really depends on your dealer... mine said it should not cause any problems, but you never know...

Thanks for the insight. Think I'll just go with the short throw and bushings and see how it is from there.

I am planning some big mods for next year so I might as well wait for the fluid till then. Hopefully the short throw and bushings make it a bit smoother till then!!!

Most dealerships won't know that you are using aftermarket fluid. I recently had transfer case seal replaced due to leaking under warranty and dealership had no idea I had Redline cocktail in the tranny and Motuls in my transfer case, nor did they even bother to check as they just dumped out everything. Only thing is that Redline fluids are actually red so I thought they wouldve noticed it but they did not. I guess after use all oil just turns black. Or I got lucky? This dealership had treated me well with no issues where as dealership near my house is pure crap. Wont even touch my car half the time because its "evo" and "its suppose to be like that" excuses. I dont buy that crap as this is not my first dsm, nor my first awd.

Enough with that Ill tell you my experience. My car had notchyness since day one with 8 miles on them. Hard to go into first gear and reverse, 1-2 hard shifting and 2-3 crunching. First fluid change at 9k with new clutch (Yes at 9k! someone other than I had abused my baby. Its a long story and i dont want to be reminded again) and still same notchyness. So at 10k miles I put in the Redline cocktail mix. This helped out a lot but the notchyness was still there. It just dampened and smoothened the notchyness. Now at 16k I recently had to get that transfer case seal replaced. Well they replaced all fluid back to OEM again. But this time my car felt compltely different. all gears goes in smooth and precisely, first and reverse goes in without having to double clutch, 1-2 is smooth and 2-3 notchyness is almost completely gone. I know this maybe coincidence where my tranny had been flushed 3 times in the past 16k miles, or constantly switching back and forth from OEM to Redline smoothened things out. But all previous dsm I have owned had same 2-3 shifting notchyness. TSi awd, eclipse gsx, gst, and evo8 had same feeling. So my guess is it just needed long period of break in time to smoothen things out a bit but majority of notchyness will be there as thats their characteristic. I did not have the transmissions fail on me however (knock on wood) even after drag and road racing sessions. So it should not be a reliability concern. As for other cars, I have had several other than dsms including three integras, mustang gt, tibuton turbo, 240sx, mr2, and cobalt ss turbo. All these cars had their own characteristics of hard getting into first and reverse or crunchy feeling as you shift gears. But none of them actually failed on me. I had two integra tranny fail because of its age and abuse from hard shifting past 8000rpm and my stupidity but that is completely different feeling.
Anyways, hope this gave any help at all.

btw when transfer case seal was replaced the tranny nor clutch was touched. only drained the oil and slipped the axle, shaft, and transfer case just a little bit. So only thing that contributed to fixing majority of notchyness was really going back to OEM fluid.
And dealership told me the seal was common fail on 2010 model year for some reason. So i dont think it was the aftermarket fluid that was the cause either. Ive used Redline and motul in many trannys, transfer case, and rear end with great results. Even in my dads jeep and my girl friends rx8.
(wow that was a long post)

I wouldn't get so lucky lol. They eye ball everything about my car since they put a new crate motor in and a intercooler at 24k miles under warranty.

I read over a bunch of pages in this thread, but it wasn't mentioned on the pages I read, but has anyone tried Redline Shockproof Oil? I've ran it in my Toyota tranny with no problems, you just have to let it warm up.

Was there any noticeable change when using Redline MT-90 or would Amosil be the better choice?

I'm looking to pick up an EVO X, I test drove one and noticed the notchiness when shifting, just doing some research.

I believe shockproof is typically thick oil so I wouldnt use it on evo. I have used it on my cobra and one of my mr2. I noticed evo uses very thin oil and is almost a single weight type of oil compared to many other imports (75-80w vs 75-90w or 75-145w like some manufacturers use). iirc, shockproof is 75-250w. Ive seen some evo guys on tracks that do run shockproof but a lot of abuse is done to the drivetrain so it may help. I would stick to the weight close to stock as possible.

^This. I have 450 miles on my GSR and I get the same audible and not-flush feeling engagement of 3rd. Cruise/daily driving speed commonly creates this, however like others have stated, higher rpm shifts never do it.

Very disappointing but still shouldn't be a deal breaker, tho every time I get the crunch, its like a tiny pebble in your shoe you get reminded is there when you get back on your feet.

2011 GSR with ~100 miles.

Notchy/grind from 1-2, 2-3.

At first I thought I was destroying my clutch and I was extremely worried until I came across this thread. The grinding feeling was extremely bad when I drove it out the dealership lot however it is slowly starting to ease down-definitely still feel it though Gonna call my dealership this weekend and see what the deal is!
