Just bought my car a week ago, 48K miles and had this issue. Since it has warranty I took it to my dealer and good thing I got this great mechanic from China. He test drove the car and in 5 mins, he lift the car up and pointed me at a bad Tranny Mount. Swapped and problem gone. It didn't even seem broken until he started pushing on it while on the lift and showed me. Hope this helps anyone with same issue.

by issue you are speaking of the 2-3 shift? mine has it pretty bad but it is well worth it as it shifts smooth as hell at high rpm.

yup. quick shifting at high rpm does make it very smoother. Also seems like it likes to run hot. I live in El Paso Texas and pur weather is 100+ degrees all day with dry heat and after driving for long period of time, shifting gets lot smoother even for regular driving.

Just wanted to see if anyone has gotten anywhere with this issue??

Ive taken my 2012 GSR to the dealership twice now and they are saying nothing is wrong with it. The first time I took it in I let them know it started out with just 2nd-3rd but now 1st-2nd is doing it a little bit as well, I went on a ride with the tech and he was saying I wasnt shifting at high enough RPM's. I was shifting at about 3k to 3500 and he said I need to be around 4k+ before I upshift. It did help, the notchyness didnt happen as often, but it is still happening. Took it back in a couple weeks later and the same tech "couldnt duplicate the issue" so I had the service manager drive it. He said he did feel the notchyness, but that it was normal. He was saying that it was because of the shifter cable detents and the synchronizers?? I am a little mechanically inclined, but Im lost on how that could cause this issue and also ONLY cause it from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd.

Any advice/insight/help would be greatly appreciated!!

Excuse my french but thats a bull**** explanation, you should be over 4k rpm etc. I shift around 2500rpms, in other words I never go that high during normal driving because I want to average around 25mpg. Moving to your notchyness problem how many miles do you have on your car? It is a 2012 so I'm assuming not very many, and if you;re under 5k this is not a mechanic, this is an idiot you spoke to. Look in your manual under Upshifting, shift 1st gear to 2nd gear 15mph, i'm going to check if 15mph (which im pretty sure it is) is under 4k rpms.

Yea I know man, I am going to go back and try to get everything in writing and see what happens. Basically tell them, ok so you are saying that the shifter cable detent and synchronizers are causing ONLY 2nd and 3rd to be notchy on upshifts intermittently? And also please show me where you are getting your info on having to shift above 4k rpm and basically slam it into gear for the Evo's "race" transmission. Forgot to add that, the mech saids it has a race tranny, LOL.

I have a little over 3k miles on it now

I'm taking my Evo in today to have them replace a torn CV boot. I have told them before it does not shift from 1-2 smooth so I'm going to have tech ride/drive it with me (will update later). I have noticed it will shift smoother if i get it just right when I'm at about 10mph (7 out of 10 shifts are notchy/grinding still) also when I'm turning from a dead stop it, and mid to late in turn I up shift, it will be smooth. Which makes me question if its a bad transmission mount.

Mine has been notchy since day one... Ssp split my tranny while doing the diff pin mod and said everything looked fine. It's just the nature of the boosted beast I suppose.

I posted early in the thread that my 2010 Evo had the same issues as everyone else.
I did use Redline fluids and had a dramatic improvement right away.

Now, after my third flush of fluids, and 70,000kms on the clock, I do not even think of the notchiness- not that i got used to it, but it has all but gone away.
OK, its never gonna feel like my ITR tranny- but hey, problem solved with good fluids and much mileage.

Lol @ race transmission! Ok now to the Issue, I've read numerous posts that recommend CV bolt replacement & fluid flush. I would have done the same things but luckily my dealership was far away and I was not able to make it there after reporting the problem. My problem went away after 5k miles. I'm at 17k Miles, no fluid flushes of any kind or CV bla bla. I know it's so annoying to drive w/ the notchyness when you;ve paid so much money I understand the feeling. My recommendation is drive normally for another couple of thousand miles, do not let these monkies touch your tranny!
