Whichever way my arbitration goes on Dec 4th, I'm not keeping this car. I refuse to do business with a company that acts as if they are doing me a favor for selling me this gift to mankind, and then proceeding to treat me like an ahole when their product has obvious issues. My supposedly inferior 2012 Mustang GT 5.0 with its chinese built transmission never had any issues despite visiting the drag strip every Sunday. Oh, and to the guy that suggested changing the fluid, you do realize that doing so voids the warranty, right? Not that having a warranty is worth anything with this company...
Did you not test drive the car before you bought it? You knew what the transmission was going to be like if you had done so. And if you need to do warranty work with the transmission, you can always go back to stock fluids if they care THAT much

Then you have another problem that may or may not be related. Most of the normal notchiness has been there since day 1.

This is exactly what happened to me. You'll notice I posted not ot long ago. I dropped my car off in service on staurday and got it back monday. They say normal opperation for car and will smoth out over time which pissed me off to no end. I get in the car and it drives perfect. The loud grind is gone and its just mildly notchy. They claim they did nothing to the car but the difference between the drive on saturday and monday is night and day(So I call BULLS#!+). I just turned 300 miles and am happy with the car again.

After my shifter/bushing/fluid change, I still had the notchiness, just much less bothersome. Then, one day (about a week later), BAM... little to no notchiness. I have no idea what happened, but it surprised me as it was a significant improvement. I'm not complaining at all, but sometimes things do work themselves out.

This thread is getting quite fun to read.
The EVO tranny is notchy- get over it.
Change the oil- the warranty is still good , dunno what dealers are screwing you out there- and things get better.

This is an EVO, not a Lancer base. It was meant to be driven, beaten, modified and raced, if you are looking for a family car, there is a lancer...

I have 85,000km and the tranny is much much better than day 1. It is all part of the trade off of having a track ready car in the street.
Get over it, the tranny is fine- just has its quirks.

Let it warm up, change the oil for Redline- once a year- I do it twice as I track the hell out of this car- and all is good.

Make no mistake, the EVO is a track car , tamed for the street. Adjust your Camry style driving to a EVO!

OK, so who else loves their EVO and has gotten over the fact that the tranny isn`t perfect?

get over it.....

Looks like I'll be "laying down" and taking it. Though, Honda had similar transmission woes with the SI/RSX-S/s2000/TL/TSX. Basically, anything that was a 6 speed had issues.

No one's perfect? :\

I've said this before and I'll say it again, you bushings and flushing fluids etc had little to no effect on the notchyness. I think it's something more than these things that make it go away, it would have went away even if you hadn't done all that. Just saying...

Just as an update. Since day 1 my shifting was notchy. in cold mornings gears would not go in AT ALL until car warmed up to 140ish. And thats all gears from 1-5 and R. (i live in hot texas btw so no below freeze weather). Now My car just hit 24k and all of sudden notchyness went away. Stock fluid, stock shifter, bushings and all stock. Not that it mattered to me that much since the beginning. lol
Anyways the one who said mitsu cant build trannys look into the mitsu white papers on the whole drivetrain. they were purposely built for abuse, not for comfort and cruise. I mean who removes reverse gear just to fit in bigger and stronger forward gears? lol

You just said something I've been trying to hammer into these dunder heads for about a year! I've been a firm believer that these fluid flushes and bushings are only for their mental satisfaction. Mine went away around 5k . Everything stock no changes.

i did use redline in the beginning for couple thousand miles, which seemed to improve the notchyness but was more of masking affect as i still felt the slight notchyness. on the second flush at around 10k mile mark i just used oem fluid. it didnt have much difference as the the tranny kept getting smoother and smoother as days went by.
so yes all these mods will just mask the affect but seems go away on its own.

time to time putting the gear in reverse is trouble. and shifting to 2nd and 3rd gear in cold time(99% when its cold) and time to time when the car got warmed up.

Mine is always notchy 2nd to 3rd unless I'm pushing the car oddly enough then it's smooth. I live outside Chicago so humid or cold are constants and do influence shifting. To be clear I've driven many manuals before this evo and know never to force a gear however this car demands it into 3rd while running cold. Also while on a cold start in cold weather I'd say maybe 30% of the time reverse is a challenge and I've learned to inch forward in first to rock the car then it slips right into reverse without issue, but its annoying.

Mitsubishi was no help gave me the everything is a okay, I've since changed out trans fluid to the redline oil cocktail many recommended..... While it has made a difference it hasn't cured everything. I feel the trans is just the way it is

As I mentioned a few pages back, I did the Works short shifter and bushings upgrade, and switched to the Redline cocktail. Right after, the notchiness was still there. But then a week or two later, it basically went away almost entirely. I feel a little now and again, but otherwise the shifting feels solid. Not sure how much my upgrades helped and how much was just breakin.
