The official Evo X notchy/grinding transmission thread
took my evo x out of the garage and put a couple hundred miles on it today. its a 2013 with 500 miles on it. only problem is 2-3 shift when shifting quickly. it doesnt grind but it feels like a metal scrape. been like this since i bought it new. im the only driver and never misshifted/grinded it.
same, it gets a little better when the tranny fluid is hot but still scrapes on quick shifts. still not bad enough for me to go through having the dealer drop the tranny and doing something incorrectly or ending up with leaks afterward or something.
I have about 600 miles on mine. 1-2 is notchy......and 2-3 gets grindy....that is what worries me. It definitely is not as bad after I have been driving for a 1/2 hour or so when the weather is around 75 plus.
I am supposed to pick up my keys on Friday so I may ask the mitsu tech his throughts on it.

I have noticed that you can get a scrape sound/feel and certain points during a shift. For instance you can feel when its going to be a smooth shift or when its going to feel like a metal scratching feel before it goes into gear. If you shift very quickly (driving normal) you wont get it. if you shift medium speed (normal) you may get it especially 2 to 3. if you shift slow about a sec after you press the clutch you wont feel that grind type feel. Its all about how you shift.
you dont want to pull/push the shifter off to one side to much. you kinda want to just guide the gears in. This style helps tremendously. Of course im speaking of a stock shifter setup. Im seriously considering upgrading the whole system to the twm. Not because i dislike ours but because I drove a friends 2011 Stang GT with short shifter and oh my was that lovely. And lets not even get to a customers C5 with complete B&M setup. so crisp and short.
I probably will end up switching since it makes the car so much more fun to drive.

My car grinds into 5th gear when shifting normal but If I delay the shift and let my RPMs go below 3K to shift the gear wont grind. I bought the Krackas shifter package from MAP and used the Redline cocktail fluid that came with it and did the tranny fluid change at only 11K miles and the new fluid has settled in and my 5th gear still grinds :/.. Any recommendations before having my tranny rebuilt to fix my synchros?
I came across the forums and read about the pennzoil synchromesh. Has anyone used this before?

My reverse has become a pain and i am only at 1K. I have to usually try and let the car roll a bit and then it goes in no prbs. But from a stand still I have to sometimes really put it in.
I have a notch to 2nd until it is really warmed up. I thought something was wrong with third till I read this thread. Third gear feels notchy/scraping getting into

My 2012 has the same issue with 2nd and 3rd. I just changed the fluid with the redline cocktail. I noticed a difference right away. But when I drained the old fluid there was quite a bit of metal shavings on the magnet and I only have 11500 on the car.
Mine's at 50k kilometers and had the same problem. But once i've installed my short shifter setup + bushings, 95% of the problem went away.
My best guess is having a short shifter, just changes the way I shift. because like a lot of people have said, you need to shift a certain way in order not to feel that notchy/grind.

I've had my 2013 x for 13500 miles now and it still grinds from 1-2 and 2-3. I also sometimes can't shift into reverse without first going into another gear or letting off and pushing the clutch down again.
Mine gives that little grunt sometimes going into second and third. Overall its come a long way. First 2-3k miles were horrible, the 2nd grear would almost want to pop out while i'm trying to engage it. Man I havent changed my gearbox oil yet and I'm @ 25k miles now. Must do that and rear diff before summer really ends.
Hey guys my bud has an Evo 9 just replaced the tranny with a used one. All linkage is good fluids changed out twice and adjusted the clutch pedal as well as replace the shifter lever and slave master, bled the fluid and the gears 1-6 are very notchy. It is hard to put any gear in and you have to practically use force and fight it in. Any ideas?
Just reading through this. I had a 2011 WRX and no grinding/scraping with any gears. My bro has 2011 mustang gt 6 speed, no grinding/scraping. My 2014 evo x grinds towards the 3rd gear and reverse is a pia sometimes. I'm guessing nobody brought this to the dealer and to have checked??
