Pretty much the only way they don't document it is if they're super cool. I look out for my mechanics; cigarettes, lunch etc. My suggestion to anyone else, if you don't know your mechanic, keep your factory parts and put them on before going to the dealership..it can save you a ton of money in the long run
P.S. never assume anything. Things might happen to get "overlooked" but you can't take a statement back once it has been said. Articulation is key.

Is the 2nd / 3rd gear notch that big of an issue?

Hey everyone, I currently have an 06 Civic Si and we have our own problems with the 2nd and 3rd gears being a bit notchy. My car seems to have it especially bad and it can really ruin the driving experience at times. Anything close to redline, forget about it most days.

Is it the same on the EVO X? Is there an easy/common remedy for it? Thanks in advance....I want an X and this is the only thing that is making me leery of them.

Best way is to switch to cocktail mix for trans fluid and get underhood shifter bushings . 95% gone.

I changed out those parts (with the exception of the weighted knob) and mine is still notchy. Most notable is the 2nd to 3rd. I'm thinking (and hoping) it's because it's been cold lately.

OP..

Is it a big deal? Not IMO.
Is it noticeable? Yes

I don't know if this is others experience, but for me, it is less notchy in the higher rpm's. And more notchy in the lower rpm's. My car kind of has a sweet spot right around 3.8k rpm's, where it isn't as notchy.

Once warmed up my transmission shifts very nicely. These cold morning take it a bit to get a little heat into the fluid though. The X GSR is the best shifting Mitsubishi 5-speed I've ever owned/driven, they actually did a very good job designing/engineering this transmission with a cool extra features you don't normally see (such as no actual reverse gear to save on rotational mass).

To the OP - I've a previous S2000 owner so I know what you expect from a transmission!

i came from an s2k and those of you that are aware, the s2k has silky smooth shifts. with that said, i have no complaints with the evo's 5spd. the 2-3 grind is only there when the tranny is cold. once it's warmed up, smooth as margarine.

How long do you feel it takes your car's transmission to warm up? During a cold day and during a hot day?

we don't really have cold days here in s cali. cold is like 40* which is nothing. but when it's around 40, it takes my transmission roughly 8-10 minutes to get rid of the 2-3 grind. but i don't just grind through my 2-3 shift prior to warm-up. my pre-warm-up process goes like this:
-short shift each gear
-on the 2-3 shift, clutch in, ease gear in to 3, tap the gas, slowly release clutch.

Trans/Clutch issue

I have had my 08 GSR since 30k miles, and from day 1, whenever i shift into reverse it would grind. i can never get a proper reverse. Its specially worse on a cold day. Sometimes you give it some clutch/power and gear engages better.
Issue 2:
Cold start 1 and 2nd gear. I live in a place which experiences atleast 4-5 months of proper winter, temps around 10F all the time. I cannot get the 1st and 2nd gear to engage right in cold start. After a while it goes away.
Well 70000 miles and counting.... But i love the way it shifts under warm/normal conditions.

My is notchy but doesn't grind, never has. It seems like it's getting better the more I drive it, but I hadn't thought about the weather. It has been warmer since I bought the car about two weeks ago. My is a 2014 model also.
