The official Evo X notchy/grinding transmission thread
My 2013 has had the notchiness since I got it over a year back. I thought it was a normal Evo thing lol. But recently I test drove a 2014 for the hell of it and it was buttery smooth, even at cold start. I thought maybe they finally smoothed out the tranny but I guess not?
I've changed the shifter (torque solutions), the base bushings, the underhood bushings (to the ones form AMS) and the transmission oil - now it's perfect. Before it was notchy7grinding all the time...

What kind of transmission fluid you.using? I got twm bushing kit. Torgue short shift. And amsoil synthetic synchromes and still grinding. Thanks
Same issue here
I am also having problem with Evo x grind from 2 to third only. But from 4th to 3rd is fine. I'm worried it is doing damage to my tranny. Doesn't happen as often now that I have weighted shifter but happens daily none the less. Wish I knew how to vote on your poll. But mark me down for it happening all he time. Fix this **** Mitsu!
i have 14 GSR and when i first got it, the trans felt super notchy thought that i wasn't stepping on the clutch all the way down but soon figured that wasn't the case....... it would normally grind u could say when going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd but I'm at like 3k miles on the car now and its been feeling a lot better hardly any notchyness and also noticed that once i drive for a good 5-10 minutes it mostly all goes away .... oh and before i bought my car i test drove a evo x and that thing too had a notchy trans.... guess its just a evo thing ?
Mine was really notchy when I got it and still is if I'm not shifting right. If I'm driving around town and can only drive like my grandma, if I double clutch it, completely smooth shifting. I was only having the problem from 2nd to 3rd. The only way I notice it in other gears is if I'm late on the clutch pedal. If I got the car around 5k rpms and drive it like you should. Absolutely no problem, unless lazy with the clutch. So if I'm not getting on the car I double clutch and have no issues.
I have a 2011 evo X MR with 14k miles and my 4th gear disappeared yesterday, even in manual mode. After sometime, the message "transmission service required" appeared. Some minutes later and in automatic mode, the 4th gear came back and the message was gone. Today everything is still ok. What can it be?
Relieved to hear that this is common, my 2014 GSR is a couple weeks old with 430 miles on it and I get the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third "notchiness" when shifting. It certainly is more noticeable when cold and does seem to remedy itself after the car heats up.
I installed the works short throw shifter and mount bushings today. What a difference. Car shift so much more precise. I'm right around 900 miles. I'll be install the cable bushings and pivot bushing this wkend
My GSR 2014
took my evo x out of the garage and put a couple hundred miles on it today. Its a 2013 with 500 miles on it. Only problem is 2-3 shift when shifting quickly. It doesnt grind but it feels like a metal scrape. Been like this since i bought it new. Im the only driver and never misshifted/grinded it.
