The official Evo X notchy/grinding transmission thread
I bought a '14 and have the grinding issue, just rolled over 200km(not sure what that is in miles). I agree that the tranny is a bit rough but i still think the gears have to wear in a little. I've driven a ton of standard vehicles and i love the evos tranny so far.
The shift to reverse problem is pretty common with a lot of standards(had it with my civic, Altima, and a few times with the r32 gtr). Just let the car roll a little or pop it into 1st before grabbing reverse. At higher rpms it shifts beautifully and it just feels really engaging, beefy, and bulletproof. I cant wait for my heavy weight knob, it should make shifting a tad better for low rpm cruising.
This is pretty much a race car after all! Try shifting a car with square cut gears, haha.
All of the guys getting really bent out of shape about this should switch to automatic trannys I think.
cheers!

I have a 2014 gsr as well, it was notchy the first 1000km but then I learned how to change gears smoother, and some of the notchiness went away. I found if you change gears around 3200-3500 rpm you'll grind a little less, and then I bought a heavy weighted Flossy shift knob and now oI don't feel any grinding. Its pretty much 99% gone after installing the Flossy.
I have a 11. It only seems to notchy when shifting into second when it's cold. Which is weird since every other car has been third or 5th. I have not done the recall for the slave cylinder.
i have a 2010 with right around 30k miles and have the grinding issues from 2-3. definitely more noticeable before the car warms up. if i granny shift it the car is easier to keep from grinding, but it's definitely still there till its hot
Just bought a '12 with ~20k and notice slight grinding from 2-3 when cold.
Easily avoidable if shifting gently, but I'll try a few bushings and a Flossy knob as well.

2014 GSR with 10,000km on it. Tranny was a little stiff for the first 1,000 km or so, which is given for a new transmission that needs to be broken in.
All gears shift as smooth as butter now at all RPM.

will hope for the best. I have a 2014 GSR with 600 mi on it, and it was "notchy" from the get go when going from 2-3 and a bit from 1-2. It seems to improve a bit after it's warmed up a bit. Also don't notice it as much at higher RPM's.
I was also wondering if it was a break in issue until I stumbled on this thread.

I changed my oil today at the dealer at 1000 mi to get rid of the conventional oil that it's not supposed to run on, and discussed it with them. They said, it's about normal, and mentioned that the EVO x clutches are not very good, and are NOT covered under any warrantee from mile 1 and that folks often will get aftermarket clutches and have them installed at the dealer.
But, I wouldn't think this is a clutch issue.
My previous car was a mustang GT. Shifting was butter smooth.

Does does front engine mount help?
Hey, guys, what you guys think about a front engine mount? Is it gona help?
For me, I am happy with how it shifts. The only complaint I have is shifting at high rpm from 1st - 2nd. Normal 1-2 is pretty smooth most of the time.
I think maybe the engine vabrates too much at high rpm so shifting from 1 to 2 might be affected because things arnt lined up properly in those conditions.
I installed one in my previous 350z, it seemed helpful.
Have u guys tried engine mount to see if it helps?

At 24k.dont have any issue with the tranny..good aftermarket company like Jun/tomei/mines/hks etc..should make aftermarket tcase/tranny parts for the evo x..im looking to upgrade soon so it can withstand that High horse power..
hard shifting
when i have a cold start my shifter is really hard to move around and 1st 2nd and 3rd are hard to get in or they grind sometimes but when the car warms up the shifter moves so much easier and glides into the gears with ease so idk what to do
Brough my car in for this reason. in the car with the service tech and i drove not one bit i feel scratching on second gear, but i felt it the whole time i drove there during the 2nd gear when make a turn. The master tech test drove it tech said "yes it notchy and they are like that for the evo x it should be okay at this point. Bring it back in if the problem get worse. And we'll noted in the log so the next iol change we'll drive it and see if something wee need to open a case. Right now i cant" the cmc were replaced during the recall as while. Im going to try the slave pill remove this weekend.
