The official Evo X notchy/grinding transmission thread
I was doing a few pulls earlier today and on one of them I ended up grinding 4th. I immediately stuck it in neutral and coasted to the appropriate speed and stuck it in 3rd and took a right turn at average speeds. As I took the turn, I heard a thump/clunk from the rear of the car. Should I be worried?
Edit: Probably the diff. making noise because of the weight shift, no?

1500 miles still grind 2nd and 3rd. Worse when cold. Warmed up it is better but still there. I find that once warm you can shift fast and firm and avoid grind or shift very slow. Dropped off car at dealer this morning and of course it doesn't happen when service guy drives it. Told him to drive it cold and see what happens. If dealer has no fix, only option is to do fluid change and bushings.
I am at 10K mikes on my 2012 - The notcheness is still there 1st - 2nd & 2nd - 3rd. Reverse in the cold is a pain - usually roll the car up a few inches and then it drops right into revers. I have come to the point where I am used to it and just go with it. I have ran my car at the track (road courses) now 4 times and no sign of issues. let me know if this issue has resulted any actual damage to the tranny or shift linkage?? so far I have not heard of any??
2100 miles on the car - same issue as day 1. Grind 2-3 shift, impossible to engage reverse in cold weather on a cold tranny...
I'm assuming the CMC recall will not help? Looks like Mitsu is well aware of the issue but will do nothing to prevent it? Will they pay for a fluid swap and bushing replacement?? Very upset at this point, a brand new car should not do this, especially after the car has been out for 6+ years.

used 2012 with ~6,800 miles on it. Still doesn't go into gear smoothly. But then again I just bought it and it has been sitting on the lot for almost a year I think. Anything that can be done or is it something I just have to live with?
I have a 13 with 9k and once the dealer put my new CMC the car shifts smoother and before the new CMC my tranny was fine I guess I have the luck of the Irish lol
Just suck it up and be a man and enjoy your Evo.

Just got it back from the dealer, the service manager admitted to knowing of the 2-3 issue but also states that Mitsu will not admit to it. CMC was done yesterday and now the engagement point is totally different, like right off the carpet. Got a little better since I've driven it about 10 miles, but I need to readjust definitely. I don't mind it though, it feels more like it should be.
Service Manager also asked me if I had any modifications on my car. I told him about the exhaust considering they would know the minute they put the car on the lift anyway. When I asked him why he said he needs to report any and all modifications to Mitsubishi...Does that sound correct?

Yes I had the same issue going in for my CMC. But I chatted up the mechanic before hand to get a feel for the person. They are "suppose to report it" but that will void your warrenty..no matter how many ppl tell u exhaust won't void it. You may be able to fight some issues, but it will be a fight non the less. Pretty much the only way they don't document it is if they're super cool. I look out for my mechanics; cigarettes, lunch etc. My suggestion to anyone else, if you don't know your mechanic, keep your factory parts and put them on before going to the dealership..it can save you a ton of money in the long run
