Brand new 2014. Grinds into 3rd. If I coast and let the RPMs drop to idle, I get no grind. Anything else, and it grinds. 450 miles. Still pretty early, so I'm hoping it goes away

Did you change anything else? bushings, oils?Originally Posted by jrmck
2014 and it grinds. Bought the heavy flossy shift knob and no more grind.

No, I didn't change a single thing but the knob. I had bought a heavy shift knob for $30 on eBay, and it made a big difference but was still a bit notchy, so I picked up the slightly heavier flossy and now its butter.Originally Posted by nipponpower

I'm glad to have found this thread. Going to try the redline cocktail or maybe just go with the straight 75w80. My buddy also has a gsr but his is butter compared to mine

I have a strange sound coming of my gearbox (probably).
When I'm on my gas pedal accelerating or just keeping speed, no sound. If I release pedal, i get quiet but noticeable rustling sound. It depends on RPM more, but not sure. So I'm hearing it at 3k RPM and above louder when I'm just rolling with foot off pedal.
Changed transmission fluid today for Motul. Still hearing that sound.
Any clues of what it is?

Add me to the list; 1nd to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd noticed some grinding or what sounds you want to call it. 2014 GSR EVO X; only 209 miles on it.

1st and 2nd gear notchy shifts for me. Just broke 1000 miles today, so I'll be swapping fluids out and seeing if that helps. Brand new 2014 GSR. Glad it's common

Get the TWM full replacement kit and it goes away and feels 100x better. But a bit $$$.

Some people have said that it has remedied their problem or has improved their gearbox feel. I too have notchy 1-2 and 2-3 shifts only when cold, gave the cocktail a try and personally it did nothing significant for me. Only difference I noticed is that the notchy gears do seem to go away quicker when the car warms up, but that may just be because of new fluid rather.Originally Posted by Silkyyy

Got my 2014 GSR 3 months ago (1500 mi) and it feels like there's rocks in the shifter mostly when its cold. Kinda disappointing, as I hoped it would go away.

So it's agreed that the 2-3 grind isn't that much of a deal and it's only present when cold??

First the first 1000 miles, you are gonna hate shifting the car. But I think that is to be expected since the transmission needs to be broken in.
However, it does get better with the age.
My car is a 14 model that currently has 5.5k miles.
I think it shifts very nicely after 10 mins drive.
After driving around 20 mins, it becomes very smooth.
I never found it necessary to replace any bushings or fluid, it is smooth for me already.
I do have a rally art shift knob, but i doubt it is much heavier than the stock one.

That's weird cause mine is only notchy between 1st and 2nd. Between 2nd and 3rd is fine. And yes I have to agree Honda knows how to make a perfect transmission. My buddy's honda prelude that I drove is insanely smooth, no force needed just slides right in no problem, even when cold. But then again sometimes its nice feeling the car choose its gear vs. you choosing the gear. IDk i havent done the fluid change yet to the mix but still think it wont change it much. It's something we have to get used to. My old Mazda was the same way as the evo...
