The official Evo X notchy/grinding transmission thread
My Mitsu mech. says this is normal. He drives a lot of them, and says it smooths out over time, but will always require slower input be the driver when just taking it easy. Quick shifts are no problem at high RPM.
I have a 2012 GSR with 4k miles on it, having exactly the same issues - If you read back on this thread there is some cars that did make the change to the Red line cocktail - it they say it works, only issue is you would void warranties.......
So far i am hearing that this issue is not causing any long term issues with the car so i am just riding it out. ( FYI your dealer wont ex-knowledge there is an issue)

Help
Bought my Evo X used so dont know what fluids it has. Mine has the same feeling. Was going to go with new tranny fluid and bushings just don't know what would be the best. I was gonna go with AMSoil ATF FLUID (LINK BELOW). And with the bushings there's so many that I'm lost. HELP PLEASE!! I have the money just don't know which ones and brand to go with. Thanks a lot guys

Dont use the atf oil. there are redline cocktails that you can use or even straight ones you can get from motul or redlines. They will help with the shifting and reduce the notchiness.
I have bought mine brand new and now has 23k miles on them. still have the notchiness just as the first day i bought them. mayb little bit better but i can definitely feel them.
if you dont like the way these feels try driving a cobra or ws6. t56 or any tremec for that matter. you will hear and feel the clunk every gear. and they will handle ridiculous power and abuse in stock form.

Evoegg,
Have you taken it back to the dealership yet to see what they say/said about it?
If you havent would you mind?? Basically they are saying that it is the shifter detent cable and the synchronizers that are causing it, but NO ONE can tell me why its only 1st - 2nd and 2nd - 3rd and not any other gears and why it NEVER does it if you are in boost and over about 4k rpm. Just curious if you can get anymore info out of them or maybe you can get a better explanation/fix action.

I just got the Works short shifter and bushings installed, as well as the AMS gate selector bushing. Holy crap, what a difference! Yes, there is still a little notchiness, but it is WAY better and easier to get past. The throw is great, everything feels crisp and precise. I highly recommend this upgrade path!
I just did my first transmission fluid change at 30k miles. The transmission was super smooth but I had to get my transfer case replaced and the gears were extremely difficult going in and out. I can already tell that the fluid change is helping though. Thinking of doing all the shifter bushing and short throw+knob to see if it all helps out some.
Yes, it was grindy going into 2nd and into 3rd, especially when cold, but it never went away fully even when hot. It was making me cringe every time I felt that 3rd grear grind. With the short shifter and bushings, everything feels like it's on tight little rails, so I'm able to push through that grind much easier. I also dumped my factory transmission fluid and replaced it with the recommended Redline cocktail. I think that helped too, but it's hard to say what did more.
just traded my wrx for a evo x on 11/3/12 yesterday just pulling out of the dealership i started to grind the reverse and noticed that 1-2-3 gears were hard to get into! man i paid a 36k car for this!I was already getting *itch at by my girlfriend saying that car was expensive and even *itch more when she found out she couldn't shift in some gears and she would had to clear it out then would go to gear, am going to bring to back on monday and they are probably going to tell me "ntf" No Trouble Found,
