where did you purchase your shift knob? I've been looking all over the web, and can't find a Mitsubishi knob that's for sale. I checked the Greddy shop, ebay, Amazon, and different vendor sites and found nothing. I want that counterweight ha

just picked up my 2012 GSR last week ... 1-2-3 is crunchy sometimes to put it in.... I owned a BMW 335i never had a shifting problem ... If its really the transmission oil ... why can't mitsu get it right !

It seems like changing the transmission oil + weighted shift knob + restrictor pill delete might work ?

If you plan on staying within warranty, stick with OEM oil (it is a very good oil). If you don't care about warranty, I recommend the Redline Cocktail, based on a lot of feedback from members, and my personal experience with Redline oils in my DSM transmissions.

I've owned a lot of Mitsubishi/DSM transmissions so my expectation of them is more lenient than a new owner to the brand. The X transmission shifts and has its quirks like all Mitsu transmissions. Take it easy when the unit is cold, shift it slowly into 3rd (unless you are racing), always put it into 4th before putting into reverse (makes reverse a lot easier). Basic tips.

Just because it has a slight notch doesn't mean the unit is going to fail. I will be doing those mods you listed, but it isn't as life or death as it is made out to seem.

Is there a pattern to this grinding gears? Certain year evo only?

I'm thinking about going to GSR and would like to be well informed.

No it doesnt apply to certain year. JUST GET THE CAR, you will love it

I went to the dealership to ask the service rep about the notchy 2nd and 3rd gear... they said its perfectly normal and that we need to let the car warm up so all the oil is warmed up.

Once my car is warmed up in 5-10 min (depending on how cold is it outside) the shift is fine...

I also I put in a weighted shift knob ... that seems to make the shift alittle bit smoother ! it helps you push into the gear! GL

just installed AMS underhood shifter bushings on my 2011 x. While I haven't done a ton of driving yet - this seemed to have improved they 3rd gear "crunch" I was getting. I'm pretty satisfied so far.

yeah I ended up getting the GSR over the weekend and I love it.
And it is notchy like you guys said. I'm going to try flushing the trans fluid to see if it improves.

Their "let it warm up" excuse is lame. The video I posted was after 35mins of driving. I did have the fisrt half of the video on YouTube but I deleted it. I let the car warm up for 20 mins just to prove to them that their idea was lame a BS. Changing the fluids do not help mine either. As I change them regularly

Let it break in a little bit more and get a few more miles on it. Mine now has almost 1000 miles on it. When I bought it I noticed some notchiness going from 1st to 2nd and alot of notchiness going from 2nd to 3rd.

Now I still have some notchiness going from 1st to 2nd but once the car is fully warmed up I usually do not have notchiness from 2nd to 3rd anymore.

Its still there from time to time but overall has really got better as I have put more miles on my car

i got a few pretty good.....in this case bad, crunches today from 1-2. i got a little over 5k on my 2011, should i be concerned about the clutch, gears, etc...? its almost gotten to the point where i'm afraid to punch it into 2nd, and i have to ease through all the lower gears.

I've owned many BMW's myself. Like you, I've never had this issue in them. Then again you're going from a quality built car to Japanese plastic cars
