Just bought a new evo x last week and it has done it since day one. asked the sales guy about it when I drove it first and he said that it was normal. It happens when i shift 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 when I shift fast, if I shift slower, it shifts great.

Most of the time I have to use two hands to slam it in reverse!

A damn shame considering the car is $35K+. You don't even get that ****y of a shift in a Kia.....

Exclamation Idk if its appropriate here but..

Even though I do drive a 5 speed ES Sport, I do have trouble shifting and 2nd gear is the worst gear to try to get into.

What the hell is going on if that is the case, are the Evo X GSR and 5 Speed lower trim lancers using similar gearbox/trannys?

Just a thought, cause its a real headache seeing this on my ES Sport but didn't think it applied to Evo X's (and I'm guessing its the GSR trim, being on a international roaming rate i can't browse through the whole thread :P sorry! )

For the past month I've been having the exact same issues most Evo X owners are having, with my 2008 GTS. I've drained out the transmission fluid and put in some fresh redline fluids and continued to experience the same issues. My mechanic then noticed my shifter cables had some play in them and we went ahead and replaced that, but Im still experiencing the same problems.

What makes no sense to me or my mechanic, is the fact the the shifter and selector cable cross each other when they are connected. The weight from one cable tends to rest on the other.

Why did I buy Mitsubishi?

Okay let's all get one thing straight.

All manual/standard transmission cars will have notichiness and occasional grind. Mitsubishi, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, GM, Ford, Volkswagen, BMW etc. All these manufacturers have notchiness and an occasional grind in their manual/standard transmission vehicles. Some have slightly more than the other it just depends on different situations.

If you don't like it then get an automatic vehicle.

I've driven other manual cars before and have never experienced these types of issues as I do with my Mitsubishi. Being a little notchy is one thing but when gears grind because you have to put force to get into a gear, then this isn't something that is normal IMO.

I was thinking of replacing my factory bushings with AMS bushings... has anyone tried these yet?

You won't find on the BMW forums a certain BMW where every complains. I'm on the forums because I've owned a M3, 335i and a 525i. Mine never notched, not did my corvette, trans-am. My buddy has a 2003.5 Mazda speed and a 05 viper. All he bought new and says his has never notched the way my Evo does and I've drove them and they haven't. Goto another car forum and find people complaining. You won't find it because they don't have this big of a problem as mitsu does. Oh as far as "different situations" i have 31K on my 2010. In the 31K miles that I've put on it, I'm sure there should had been a "situation" where second gear didnt notch. Not a single time has it been smooth, yet the dealership says it's completely fine.

you are soooooo wrong.
I have owned a Honda all my life and never once did it come close to the the hell I endure with the Evo.

I now have 50000km on my EVO and all the notchiness is about gone except from start up.
My Type R never had notchiness even at -30 in the winter.

The GSR EVO is in a class all of its own.
