Because, you know, other non-Japanese manufacturers don't use plastic. In fact, if you were to look at the transmission, its composed of mostly lego's and utilizes rice milk for the reduction of friction.

Seriously though, I get tired of hearing about how other transmissions are vastly superior to the Evo's. We all know they are notchy/grindy. It just comes with the territory.

No, Americans are pros at plastic use, then charge you 40k. Corvette is a prime example of plastic

Here I was thinking I was really bad at shifting (first manual), when in fact it was the transmission itself. Well...let me not get ahead of myself. My clutch engagement still needs a ton of work. Love my new GSR though

I know the transmission for my GTS and the transmission for the Evo X is two totally different transmissions, but I decided Id post my issues anyways a while back and recently my oem exedy clutch failed on me. Its still unknown whether the transmission caused the failure but I posted with pics the condition of the clutch which started with the same issues I was experiencing as most of guys are with your Evo's.

After 7k miles I'm happy to say the notchiness in my GSR is pretty much gone. The difference is like night and day.

I have had the notchiness but today was a warm day and I was driving it on the freeway. I almost felt it "break in" and the notchiness go away. I thought I broke it as this is my first manual transmission and I still have some improving to do ... glad to see the car is just settling in.

Hey guys,

My Evo only has 700 miles on it, but the notchy/grinding from 1-3 is really bad. Should I take it in? What should I expect from the dealer?

yes the nochiness is really bad and annoying. i also went to the dealership already and they sugguest let the fluids warm up before u start driving.

otherwise u can do what many members already suggeated by switching to amsoil or the redline cocktail.

i havent switch new fluids yet but i will when i get more miles in

My dealership said they would possibly put in new transmission fluid other than that OEM crap if I went out and got it.

I herd if you change the fluid to anything other then OEM specs you would void your warranties??

Yup, the dealer told me that If I put anything other than OEM in my transmission that it would void warrant. This doesn't stop you from flushing the aftermarket fluid and putting in OEM when you need to do a warranty claim.

Definitely experience this in almost all gears in my 12' GSR. Has there been any easy solutions to tighten things up?

Short Shifter
Base Bushings
Underhood bushings
Redline Fluid

All this will help a lot, but it will still be there...
