Good to hear! I'm at 36k km, and the 2-3 notch is there... More often at lower rpm. For the most part, I do that shift nice and slow.

Really thinking about removing the clutch restrictor pill.

Just for grins, try doing the shifts more quickly a few times. Not speed-shifting, but just normal shifting.

I'm telling ya, I granny-shifted my car and it was terrible. The slower I shifted the worse it got. After the break-in period I started shifting more naturally and it immediately felt better.

I'm wondering whether this might be why some guys report "no problems" from the very beginning while others are agonizing over the shifts.

I'd really like someone else to experiment and see whether they experience the same thing I think I'm experiencing.

Here is my update,

EVO X, bought in November 2009. Very notchcy at first and very annoying to the point that I was reconsidering my purchase.

My buddy who had the same car bought several months earlier told me that after a few track thrashings, the gears go better.....weird eh?

So I switched to Redline gearoils this spring at 12,000km and beat the car a bit at CMP, LCMT and WGI and now with 20,000km the gearbox is almost normal.

So is it break in time? or the oil? I guess both help.

I am happy now and won't sell this car for any reason.

Yep, tack on another person with a notchy shifting Evo X gsr. Mine does it especially from 2 to 3rd and vice versa. I never hear a "grind" tho - more of an audible thump/click as I get the stick into the gate. It seems to happen often when I'm accelerating more aggressively than normal though.

at least im not alone

Just bought the evo X from 10 miles (when i got it) to present just over 400. Nothing but a stiff almost wants to grind feel, hot or cold. The more aggressive i drive the better it gets so i drive it normal and i stop'd granny shifting : ) much better. Still there 1-2 2-3 but much less

I've got a little over 1k miles on my car and the grinding from 1-2 and 2-3 seems to be gone (or at least minimal).

During the first 1k, I also noticed that if you shift slow, it seems to grind more often. If you shift quicker, it doesn't happen as much.

Point. I see a surprising number of kids posting that they just got an Evo and it's their first manual. Etc, etc.

But I myself drove an Evo VIII for 6 years before getting the Evo X. And I experienced the same thing.

I think the insidious thing about the phenomenon is that it most severely affects the people who are trying to treat their cars the most gently.

Thank god for this ****ing thread. I just got my 2010 PBX a week ago and though my tranny was busted cause i have a grind and notchyness going from2-3. The slower I try to shift the worst it feels. When I shift on the quicker side like i have a purpose though it goes in fine. Also On cold start this morning I couldn't get into reverse for the life of me. I finally had to row through 1-4 at a stand still then it let me into reverse.

I have roughly 24,000 miles now and my gear box is great except for the 2nd gear grind. It actually will grind sometimes. When it's not grinding, it's still notchy as hell. Other than 2nd, the car is great. As many have stated, when you beat on the car, it's gets smoother. Unfortunately, I'm not redlining my car from redlight to redlight everday. I may end up requesting a new synchro if I do not see any improvements by 36,000.

i actually went to my dealer with the assumtion my synchro was bad and they said they didnt feel anything and that my car (2010 evo x) does not have a synchro...can anyone explain this? im assuming thats not true b.c. i belive the 07+ had them (corect me if im wrong) anyway im really frustrated with this and i regret selling my g35..a new $35,000 car shouldnt have these problems..
