The official Evo X notchy/grinding transmission thread
ok, one more for tonight and then im done... i am reading the 12 some pages of TSB 02, and well it looks, at first glance the MR may have issues other than, notchy grindy tranny, lol... sorry cant help it, it says "neutral gear rattle (mr only) - after inital break-in, some neutral gear rattle noise may be heard coming from the transmission. This is a normal characteristic of this transmission and no repair attempt should be made.
well sweety thats one hell of a lemon law in your state, I wish we had that here, I had my tranny replaced and well, altho it is better, it isn't gone. our law is 3 times to the dealership with the same issue and it hasn't been fixed, or DANERGEROUS mechanical issue that could result in injury or death (i blev that is the jist of it), certainly i am not sure what your timeline is either, ours is a year. Take it to the dealership, make them print the report that youve had it there and they haven't done anything to it, or however they like to say it, here they say "cannot duplicate concern" if they really wanna put the screws to you, but that hasn't been my issue thus far other than my stereo.... totally nother issue, i still need to take mine back, have to call tomorrow, its much worse goin in or comin out of 3rd not really noticeable too much any other time, i told my hubby a pos could beat me out of the hole for sake of babyin the damn thing, trying not to make it notch - bump - grind WHATEVER...
am i unhappy with my car, yes, should i be yes, do i plan to do a lemon law case... even if it comes down to it, prolly not but still undecided, as you all have footed the same bill i have, this car aint no base cobalt, i paid a pretty penny and expected to get a pretty car...
oh yeah and as my husband just pointed out, since i bought my car in oh and live in wv, god only knows which lemon law to go by, i would argue whichever one best represented ME, but i could (prolly am) wrong, but that too could be fought out in court i think (props to my atty)

Ohio lemon law is, within the first year or 18000 miles, whichever is sooner, 3 repair attempts for same defect and defect recurs, 8 times for any combination of defects, or 1 time for a defect likely to cause death or serious injury and defect recurs.
You're right about the service orders. I have 3 different service orders for the shifting problem, and each time the service tech drive my car and verified the shifting problem and documented that on the service order.
I don't know why you guys are making such a big deal out of this, it's just a fluid issue that'll get corrected soon. I too went through a period of about 2 or 3 days where I got really unhappy about it and felt saddened by a feeling of dissatisfaction, but then I thought about it and realized that it's not that big of a deal.
Once the tranny gets warm it's much better and even though it may feel crunchy when first driving the car in the morning it smoothes out pretty quickly and just requires some quick positive shifts to be happy. The car really is amazing and if you can look past the one and only real quirk that the car has then it's not so bad. They will come out with a fluid soon that corrects the issue and everyone will be content. I don't regret my purchase one bit and neither should you guys.

When cold shifting from 1st-2nd it grinds if I am not to careful but after it warms up it shifts very smoothly to 2nd. It used to grind when warmed up before but after the break in its fine when warmed up. I just want to know if I am causing any damage/wear on the tranny because of 1st-2nd grinding when the tranny is not warmed up.
this info is for someone with more disposible income than i.... you can go to... mitsubi****echinfo.com, where they will allow you to do a general search on your car and it says there are, currently, 3 tsb's and 5 tech talk articles, you have to register and yes PAY for the service of either 24 hours @ $19.95, 7 day $99.95, 30 day $249.99, 180 $999.99, 365 $1499.95, lemme know if anyone bites..., there is also one tsb (#2) online if you google right... it is general information released in january about the car and it says...
" you must get pre-authorization from your PDSM before replacing any Lancer Evolution X major power-train component (engine, transmission, transfer case, etc.)" & "Transmission issues must be diagnosed in conjunction with the Mitsubishi Techline prior to the beginning of any repairs"

just noticed your in vegas, have you driven that evo down the strip? ive flown out there twice, but drivin it would take forever. I couldn't blev the phat rides you can rent...
. Other then that it tends to get too congested on the strip sometimes, especially when they have construction going on in certain spots or when accidents happen. Yeah from where you are at driving would be about 2,116 miles so it would be quite the road trip. Yeah Vegas does have quite the selection of exotic car rentals:

This "notchiness", especially when cold, is very similar to what I felt in my E39 M5 tranny when I put Redline Fluid in there. When I switched to OEM fluid, the notchiness went away for the most part. I wonder if Mitsu switched to a Redline "formula"?
I test drove a X on Saturday with 4 miles on it. It would grind 2nd and 3rd gears while driving gingerly. Not a good sign on a brand new car. I told the salesman he should tell the technicians to check it out, but he played it off saying he would mention something to them this week.
I took mine back in, they acknowledged it had an issue, then they drove the one on their lot, and well they said ITS WORSE, I said and Im supposed to feel better... they called the factory rep whom decided to replace my tranny the first time, he said until he can drive it he can only say its "normal" ... I think fluid will help to before certain point, but once the car gets worse its too late, mitsu needs to find a fix and step up

Yeah man. I'm pretty sure I have my foot all the way down when I change gears, nothing after 3rd but going into 3rd and 2nd is a whole nuther story. Is mitsubishi doing anything to fix this?
