As rich as the engine runs and as easy as it seems to be to tune a bunch of power into it by leaning it out, do you think that Mitsubishi has a reason for underpowering the X?
Afraid of too many warrenty claims on the power train? easy to upgrade power in the next model year?

Andrew at Dyno4mance believes it is mapped rich to make the stock cat last beyond the duration of the warranty. The Evo is not the only factory forced induction car doing this now, the MZR in the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 do as well. A couple of turboed Ecotecs I've seen on the dyno did this.
The first reflash helped overall fuel economy a bit. This one will not, since it only leans marginally in open loop. I mean, I guess it would be slightly better under WOT, but if you go from 9mpg at full throttle from 8mpg, its not going to make a jot of difference at the pump.

One thing that blows my mind are people saying that the car might run 12.90s stock with this flash. Get a grip! The degree the flash leans the car is marginal. If you want to break into the 12s, break out your wallet and get a good custom tune from one of the several professional vendors on here offering them.

I ran several 13.2s @ 103.5-104 in my car with a catback and I wasn't trying to beat on it very hard...no flat shifting, just driving pretty normal. I ran within 1mph of that completely stock and I think I could have achieved the same ET now that I know how to launch the car. I am not sure how much they are leaning it out, but maybe it will help, maybe it won't. It is just as bogus for you to discredit it as it is for me to hope for it.

but he said this also
"I ran within 1mph of that completely stock and I think I could have achieved the same ET now that I know how to launch the car. "
so basically what he saying is he can do it with the stock one too right? Or i miss understand something here?
ps i did not doubt hes time or hes driving skill, but "i didn't even try hard" is sounds odd when you run 13.2 sec with the cat back only X. Just the i didnt even try hard is enough alone

In fact, stock Xs on average are 100-101mph cars and run mid-high 13s. I'm not talking about a ringer time from a seasoned drag racer runing at 0 feet above sea level at 38 degrees on the fastest track in the country (E-town).
I'm talking about an average Evo X that is bone stock. And more to the point, what this factory flash will do- That it won't miraculously put a stock car in the 12s. To get in the 12s, the car will need around 50whp and 5mph. The factory reflash sure as crap is not going to give that. [/point]
Sigh...I wish I can get the reflashes...but unfortunately all of the dealers nearby are oblivious.
I guess I'll be making the 30-40 mile trip down to South Coast when I have time..
