Defective Stock Recaro Seats
Dealership told me it typical of the vehicle, refused to do anything about it! Also said the transmission issue was due to it's high gear ratios and also went so far as to try and point the finger at me for my aero package rocker molding issue! Terrible paint quality, refusal to start at times and flimsy bumper moldings and weak front windshield's are just to name a few issues this car has!!!
My dealer finally ordered me new seat backs after about 3 trips there bugging them. They said the new seat backs are updated with more cloth arount the plastic parts to avoid the problem.
I just got my x last week and the passenger seat has this issue with it as well. I am going to take pictures of it and email directly to mitsu and most likely take it in to my local stealership and try to get them to document the issue. I am sitting currently at 1147 miles. A 800 mile trip home from the dealership adds up quickly.
Okay folks. I wouldn't bother having the dealer try to address the staple problem. All the dealer did for me was "re-position" the staple. The fix lasted all of a couple of weeks. I fixed the problem yesterday - permanently. Simply remove the plastic inserts (they pull apart fairly easily). Then use a needle and thread to sew the opposite ends of the seat fabric together (front end to back end). You'll need to pull the ends tightly together while sewing. Basically, you create tension in the fabric so that it doesn't keep coming loose from the foam. Stapling fabric to foam was a bad idea for this particular type of seat. It might have worked otherwise but
cut the fabric too short near the inserts.
