Storage under HVAC

Hey guys... I brought this up once before, but for the life of me I can't find the thread, and the subsequent responses.

I'm looking for something very very particular. or atleast a suggestion on how to go about getting it. I'm looking for some kind of "net" style storage below the HVAC controls. Imagine two miniature shower curtains between the front and the back, and then a nylon net between them. this type of "catch all" would be perfect for the cell phone when I jump in. I'm not opposed to custom fab, but I just can't come up with anything.

you guys have any thoughts on how to go about making something like this? or if such a thing exists?

my 2011 has little cubby with doors (one with the Aux input and one with the ac power)

I'm guessing you dont have that and you have the style where there's the power adapter and a little coin cubby and the rest of the area is open?

I would think some spiffy-and-overpriced plastic body pushpins and some net material from a JoAnns or Michaels would do it. Just need to pull the center console piece out so you can pilot the holes were the pushpins would go and hold the net

This is accurate. I thought about ordering the part to add those cubbies. but I had those on my Ralliart and I would just prefer to have something like I'm describing because I can keep access to my coin holder, my AC outlet. Plus the RCA jacks are accessible but they would be out of sight.

I like the idea of adding in a net like this. and I'll put down some cash to make it look professional.

Wait, the 2011's have an ac plug? Like a 3 prong plug wall outlet you would have in your house? My '08 doesn't have this, just a cigarette style power outlet. I wonder how hard that would be to install on an '08?

Sorry sorry, I mis-spoke! it's a standard dc outlet. cigarette style. but they make generic replacements to put in place of a standard size DC cigarette lighter.

Just an idea.

But I used a dremel to dremel out a hole in that cubby so I could wire my usb cable for the Accessport through it and to the OBDII port. If you removed the radio it's really easy to reach down and access behind there. (Radio is crazy easy to get to. Just take off the glove compartment. unscrew the only screw you see low on the right corner behind the edge of the glove compartment. Pop that piece of trim off. Take off the 1 new screw that is exposed, pop off that long thing piece of trim that is accross the front of the dash. Then from there it's pretty self explanitory. Few more screws and 1 more piece of trim around the radio and then the radio comes out. Nice big hole to reach down and behind that dash area)

I'm trying to picture that cubby in my head, but I'm sure if you could poke a couple holes in the plastic on the left and right and get an approrpiately sized metal (or maybe even some strong plastic) rod to slip in it. Find some sort of netting as you describe (I'm thinking like the netting that sports equipment comes wrapped in). Thread it through that rod and then poke a few wholes in the back and tie it taught in the back. have the back tied a bit higher then the front so your stuff won't slide all the way to the back and be hard to reach.

What would be really cool is if you could do it high up enough in the back to use it as hidden/secret compartment to store cell phone or something valuable if you wanted to leave it in the car.

ddawg. you have captured the image in my head perfectly. all except the hidden/secret part. my intent isn't a secret storage, for that I have some more creative ideas.

This is pretty much the approach I am taking, with some plastic washers to make it look like it's mounted and not just shoved in a couple of holes. The problem I'm having now is I can't really find any kind of netting anywhere. hopefully I'll have more luck once I'm back in the states and can walk through a few craft/hobby stores.
