Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
They say the 5-speed will provide optimal acceleration. I wonder if that means the 5-speed will be faster than the DSG. From the way they word it, that appears to be the case. I'm sure the DSG box is about 50lbs. heavier at a minimum over the standard shift. I found that interesting and surprising.
Additionally, the Evo's one of the last cars that's easy to work on in your garage. Interior bits pop out obligingly for you to run the wiring to your radar detector, or to swap the positions of the gauge pack and the radio. An entire industry exists to satisfy your urges to modify the car to your personal taste.
All the articles I read about the Evo complain about its low rent interior. There have been several "wish there was an automatic" threads on here. Mitsubishi apparently listened to all this and made changes. But people still complain.
I don't understand why if there is an OPTION to have an auto that it bothers some people so much. And it isn't even a typical slushbox auto like you'd find in a commuter/luxury car for that matter. What if the auto turns in better straightline performance?

So how old would the engine need to be before its OK to replace it, 20 years, 30 years? Bulletproof or not at some point you need to use a new engine for new technology. For all anyone knows this new engine could be even more robust than the one it replaces. I’d give the new engine some time to see if Mitsu did it right.

Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable-valve-timing technology has been applied to both camshafts to broaden the power band. Mitsubishi has also done its best to engineer this aluminum-block, open-deck engine to withstand the stress of turbocharging as well as the former iron-block 4G63 design.
ok, i have owned dsms in a progress state.
from a 90 gsx
to a 91 tsi
to a 95 gsx
to the evo 8...
And my love for dsms and the 4g63 has grown with each car, why should i change to some pos rear mounted exhaust engine.
Lets take Toyota for example with the supra. The 2JZGTE engine was awesome, a 6 cylinder compliment of the 4g63.
That was the end of that engine. Now there is talk of prototypes years later but there isnt much they could do to improve either the 4g63 or the 2jz. Point is, they dont always take what they learned and move forward with it.
The Aluminum block is unlikely to support anywhere near the same power the cast iron block the 4g63 has supported. MB11 = Garbage

Lets see your X Proto Photoshops!
Now with a bunch of new pics of near production value .... lets see your photoshops of modded ones!
For those of you that don't like the Evo X exterior/interior look or the new engine or the DSG transmision.... Why are you complaining so much? Most of you already have an EVO 8/9, so enjoy it and if you don't have an Evo 8/9 then go buy one, I'm sure there're still for sale.
The thing is there is no way Mitsubishi can make the EVO "just the way you want it" for everybody...There will always be those people who will like it and who will not. But from Mitsubishi's perspective they have a business and like any business they have to sell to make money and for them to sell lots of Lancers/EvoXs they have to try and meet the needs of lots of people. I am sure that most of you will agree that they will be successful with the new model lancer/evoX for what they are trying to achive and that is to make lots of sales.
Now here are my thoughts on the Evo X. Here's what Mitsubishi has done for the potential buyer. They made a car that:
1. Looks agressive.
2. Will handle very well, and from what they claim, better than the current evo.
3. Built an engine with lots of power that they will be using from now on for the new evolution vehicles to come. I'm sure they are not planning to have another enginge for the Evo11. This engine is not yet proven, but neither was the 4G63 when it first came out...
4. Options. Mitsu has given you everything that the perious Evos had and they also gave more just like many of us wanted. Cruise control, Climate Control, more upscale interior, etc...
The evo X if you really think about it has all the things that make an EVO plus more. So what else can you want from Mitsubishi?
Another thing to remember is that the EVO is a car that people love to mod so why complain about the steering wheel having controls, if you don't like it, there's tons of nice aftermarket ones. And that's why most of us want/have the EVO so we can modify it to how we like it. Extras can always be removed IMO.
That's all I got for now, sorry for the long post, but you don't have to read it.

You guys always think "glass half empty". Why don't you go rip on the new Vette motor too!
This car is just plain beautiful. It looks more like the beloved Skyline than an audi.

My 2003 is on its way back to stock in prep for the 2008.

More big news comes from the availability of a six-speed, dual-clutch transmission like Volkswagen's DSG unit. Shift paddles are mounted on the steering wheel, while a switch on the console delivers three different shift modes. For purists, a six-speed manual gearbox option will also be offered
Also, the part you left out from the article about the engine....
With its lightweight aluminum block, the new turbocharged MB11 2.0-liter MIVEC unit is expected to generate 320 hp and up to 325 lb-ft of torque.
