IF all of those goodies seen on the prototypes stays, then I'd be VERY surprised if the prices start below 35k

JRod- got some bad news for you, that value is in GBP (sterling) not Euros therefore based on the FX today the GBP35,000 is $67,633, with a 1GBP/$1.93. So don't count on that $45K above. Way off, and the article still has concept photos. It is all speculation on this on

A few things I never thought I'd see on an Evo: Paddle shifting, dual exhaust, 20" wheels.

New interior is amazing. So many things I like about that car. The only reason I like the paddle shifting is that if I happen to get this car for a DD, I can just leave it in auto mode if I want, or shift the crap out of it with paddles.

I'm so glad this is coming out now as I get out of college. Might be my first new car with my own money.

Well... I guess I dont know my exchange symbols then. lol Sorry....

No one knows anything about the car yet so until a REAL press release is out I say everyone stops arguing, guessing, blah blah blah etc.... Its hard to talk about something no one knows about. I jsut know what I read before about the price being $40,000ish. That is not the exact article I read I am still searching for that as it was a newer one.

You would think that there would be a little more disappointment in the change from the 4g63 to this new engine. The transmission is a big deal as well but the engine, the heart of the car, the 4g63... now gone. That right there is enough reason for me to not buy the car. Why would mitsubishi abandon an engine it perfected for performance for over 15 years...newer is not always better.

You would think most of the evo owners on this forum would care about the speed, handling, braking, etc. Instead everyone is concerned about stupid things like the wing and stock wheels.

I'm sure the tuning wil begin soon after release, but will mitsu ever produce an engine that holds 400-500hp on a stock block again? I doubt it.

In my view the EVOLUTION did not evolve. One step forward mitsu, 2 steps back.

Price: £35,000 (est)

That converted to US dollars is... DRUM ROLL PLEASE!

Everything in UK is expensive, the current Evo 8 MR cost £35,539.00 in UK that is $68,892 US which is way over what we pay for one here.

This is the UK site: http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/evolution/prices.asp

Yeah, no point in arguing over the price when NOBODY knows what it actually is. Unless you are the president or financial manager of mitsubishi, you aren't gonna know the price until everyone knows the price. Seeing as how this car won't come out for another year. I'm guessing we'll be pondering a price for quite a while. Personally, I say no way in hell the base model is going to be 35k or more. Such a huge majority of these cars are younger, I don't see how anyone would buy them over other brands.

Just an FYI- converting from pounds sterling to dollars is not instructive in determining the US retail price of a car. The brits get screwed because they're the only RHD country in europe and car companies charge them for having to create RHD models for sale in the UK. Even though Japan is RHD, japanese car companies charge similar prices because they can.

An example-

2007 Honda CR-V EX is 23,500 pounds sterling, which translates to $45K.

Most cars in the US are much cheaper when you factor in the exchange rate compared to their counterparts in europe. The weak dollar is forcing companies to make hard decisions about their cars and profit margins.

Even if the new Evo is $40K, it's still going to sell like hotcakes. The two pedal transmission and the added luxury widen the market and move it towards people who can afford the price of entry. Anyone who thinks a 335i is an acceptable alternative to this car doesn't get this car. Lots of people at work (who drive porsches and bmws) are already talking about buying this car. And let's face it, Mitsu would rather have them than 25 year olds crashing the car and running up insurance for everyone else.

My guess is that with the base model having only a 5 speed, there may be a watered down version of S-AWC in the 30K range and a full model with everything around $40. It's not a bad deal, significantly more content than my MR for $3K. Also the 5 year /60K mile warranty even outstrips BMW's. My experience with my last evo was great- warranty fixed all kinds of little things and I expect the same to continue, only for 5 years. Remember when you trade in a 3 year old Evo now, you are trading in a car with a full 2 years of warranty left. That is not insignificant. Just my two cents.

I disagree, 15 years with a base engine that you have perfected and tweaked probably to the top of its ability. 4g63 legacy has been established, but sometimes you have to move on and start new to create something better. Think about it, the engine is almost 60 pounds lighter from being all aluminum and building a new engine means they took all the lessons they learned from the 4g63 and took that into consideration when building the b11. All the little things that they didnt like, or couldnt change the engineers were able to build a car around an engine that they have fully designed.

The design of the car is the first thing you notice, of course people are going go ohh and ahhh over the exterior and interior, but do you think for one second that Mitsubishi is going to roll over and play dead in the performance game with a brand new EVO??? No way! Trust me i wouldnt be surprised to see this car have in access of 330hp stock. The car is hot esspecially with the 20" bbs wheels i think it fits perfectly with the width of the car gives it such a mean stance I wouldnt want smaller rims. Honestly if they were to sell it as is, only thing i would change out are the recaros. But i doubt those are prodution model seats.

Personally I am digging the whole car. I have a evo IX mr, i love it to death and still consider myself in the tuning world but i have yet to mod the IX. I have always had love for sporty luxury cars like the M3, this is what I see as a great alternative. I have been pondering modding my IX but now that I have seen the X i think I will just leave the IX alone and pre-order a X to the exact specs I want and trade the IX on a X. Overall i just have to say the car looks stunning and if you think this baby will not turn heads and or blow by u... Is sadly mistaken.

DSM BABY

So how old would the engine need to be before its OK to replace it, 20 years, 30 years? Bulletproof or not at some point you need to use a new engine for new technology. For all anyone knows this new engine could be even more robust than the one it replaces. I’d give the new engine some time to see if Mitsu did it right.
