You all are saying it has hints of the neon. Well, like many know....the lancer and the neon will be built off the same platform. Well, to rephrase that the neon will be built off the lancer platform. (not the other way like some think....lancer built on neon platform). So this should not be a big surprise to anyone that it has hints of the neon in it.

I think it looks like a mazda 6 crossed with an Audi A4, with a boxy wing on it, myself.

Not to my taste. Aslo sad news that the 4G63 is about to disappear. Good-bye to insane boost levels.

Interesting that the IX is about to get variable cam timing for what appears to be the last iteration of the 4G63 in a fairly short production run.

damn that this is ugly. on the other note when was the last time hyundai or daimlerchyrsler came out with decent engines. if only they would just stick with something similar at the very least. now i understand why there was recent news about mitsu of USA going under. it is cause mitsu got some jackass designer that think they could make something better that is ruining the company. sigh

Isn't the current lancer Evo exclusivly produced in Japan. and if so, how is it based or even slightly related to the Neon platform? As far as I know, the PT Cruiser is the only Neon based car to date...

Oh yea, and I love the look of the X. Hope the production comes out close to that. Reminds me of the direction they are taking the new Skyline GT-R

Wow is that thing ugly. The sides are too flat, the front looks like a speed boat. Talking about being hit by the ugly stick. Usually I am the first to say that performance is more important than looks.....but, the X is ugly.
The only hope is that this is a concept picture, and the real car is still in the future, which means it could change.

that is true. just like the srt-4 owners. hates the looks, but likes the power.

Terry...the new lancer coming out (which is this joint venture with chrysler) will be built along with the neon on the same platform. Not the current neon.

I have to fully agree. The pontiac nose of our current evos is bad. We got used to it so now it doesn't bother us so much....but it was a bad design move. This latest styling of the X is really, unbelievably hideous. I cannot imagine what the designer was doing shrooms? LSD? There has to be some way the Mitsu will at least ask us what we think of the design with a survey or something. No? Guess not. Guess I won't be getting an evo X. That is just not possible to get used to.

Anyone have a link to news that the next neon will be build on mitsubishi's C-Platform?

The article states that the engine will be a "spin-off" of the co-developed engine with chrysler and hyundai, and that the c-platform which was co-developed with chrysler, will be on the X but will show up on the outlander first.

Nothing in this article states that the platform is shared with the next-gen neon.

I think sometimes that we on this board forget that mitsubishi wants to sell as many of whatever cars they are building as they can, and that the narrow range of aesthetic opinion that hard-core enthusiasts stand for is not as important as we think in should be in their wider business plan. The shape of the Evo 10 as depicted in this artists rendition will no doubt me much more pleasing to the average buyer, as it looks like most new cars that are coming out now. I don't like it, but I have accepted that my aesthetic tastes concerning cars are decidedly around the bend from most folks. I actually think the Evo 8 is a great looking car. I like the aggressive shape, the fender flares, the wing, etc. But most of my friends just scrtach their heads and wonder how I could have gotten rid of an E-36 for this "hideous" looking car......
