Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
Oh and Livesports I think i read that it will have minimum of 320 bhp somewhere. And in my opinion there is nothing in this car that says evo... kind of sad, rally look is out the window, looks like a sports car now. But nonetheless I do like it.

The EVO is not about looks, it is about PERFORMANCE. I am worried about the no-clutch-pedal steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and increased curb weight. Other than that, I like it, even though the rear end and 3/4 rear view look like an especially ugly Acura.
I think the jury is out on this one. We will just have to wait and see. If it is offered with a manual gearbox/clutch pedal, and the RS model is light enough, it should be a great car.
On the other hand, if the new Eclipse-porker is any indicator of the direction Mistu is going, I will look elsewhere for my next track car. If I could afford the price of 2 EVOs, I'd get a new Z06 (C6) anyway.

And for all the negativity that has been said about the 6-speed paddle shifter, sure I enjoy manual as everyone else here does but the tranny choice makes sense for an EVO. Let me ask you guys 2 simple questions.
1) What was an EVO originally designed for?
Answer: rally racing
2) What tranny does every WRC car use to go fast?
Answer: Sequential paddle shift tranny
The tranny choice makes sense for most racing applications as a sequential type can shift faster than manual trannies. The problem is most of us like to drag race so launching won't be as much fun.

Wow, the photos of the prototype look much better than the conceptual sketches. This is an interesting dilemma: buy an VIII or IX (known quantities), or wait for the X. I don't see the X having a MSRP under 35K if they bring it over with all the new technology, so my choice is probably made already, unless I get a nice raise next year. I'd be amazed if the new engine is as rock-solid as the 4G63, but we could be pleasantly surprised over time.

The new 4g63 or whatever code they give it will be ALL ALLUMINUM, no more cast iron block. Add that to the fact that "extensive use is made of aluminum in the roof, engine hood and other body panels" and that equates to a car that will most likely be lighter.

From what I read Mitsu has tried to get back to basics with the X and take it even closer to the actual WRC car.
I can’t believe how many people here are hung up on the looks of the car. Especially since this is an EVO forum… News flash the current EVO is widely considered to be an ugly car. I thought most people buy them for how they drive not look, but I guess I must be mistaken.
If the EVO X goes like Mitsu claims it will then I’ll buy it. To me it looks grown up now. It was clearly too boy-racer before. There is a time and a place for such cars but most people want a car that fits well at all times and in all places.
Hopeful the more dignified looks will attract less unwanted attention from thieves and law enforcement… Less tickets… That’s a good thing people.

I would even settle for the paddle shifters. I would really like to see them do a two door model similar to the Norris Design custom.
I am down for it running 11's but the twin turbo V6 no thank you. I have been there and done that and they suck to work on.

I am definitely most excited about SAWC. If it does enough 'magic' to warrant a graphical representation on the LCD screen, it must be doing something really special.

My biggest concerns are:
1.) 2.0L displacement. How well will this compete with the 2007 conpetition: 350z/g35c, is350 coupe(?), Supra(?), RX7(?), GT500, STi, VW R36, Camero(?)? Personally I'd really like to see an optional turbocharged 3.0L V6/I6 under the hood.
2.) What will starts be like in the new SMG tranny? Let's face it, this engine blows below 3k rpms...will the SMG magnify this problem?

haha.. yeah I cant believe people are saying the car is ugly.. wake up people, we drive an ugly car now.. but guess what, when your behind the wheel of a snarling ugly car... that looks extremely pissed you quickly forget what everyone else thinks... I want the car to looks like some kinda of futuristic aggressive race car.. which is exactly what this design is.
