oh thanks. why is the mounting plate and screws necessary? Is it bad to just attach it on the top of the navigation system or somewhere inside the dash?

The mounting plate works as a ground plane for the antenna. The mounting plate and screws attach it to the underside of the dash, and is the factory attachment method. It's best to install it with this, but I suppose that you could try it mounted to the top of nav, it might work just fine.

I'm looking at putting the factory Nav in a 2010 SE. Does the install kit come with the A/V aux in? The SE only has audio in.

Thanks,

As I understand it, the aftermarket nav systems can be made to work with the steering wheel volume and station buttons, but if you have factory Bluetooth, you're S.O.L. there. The aftermarket units apparently don't work with the steering wheel Bluetooth buttons.

Please help. I have decided to install an after market head unit with NAV. I could not afford the stock NAV.

Do you happen to know how to connect it to the steering remote control? Which wires to connect? Thank you in advance.

I would like to do this primarily for the "informant" features of the OEM unit. I have a few questions.

1. What all all of the information / control features outside of Nav and entertainment (setting car feature programming, tire pressure monitor, mpg tracking, ect.)

2. Whats the cost of having the dealer reprogram it for these features to work?

3. Are there any aftermarket units that have decent informant systems built in?

Do these parts work on a 2011 also? I picked up the navi on eBay and I need the install kit, but is there a difference between the 2008 and 2011 install kit. If anyone knows please help me out. Thanks

Does anyone have a link to get the install kit for $350? The cheapest I found so far was $419 or so. And is there any difference between an '08 navi and an '11 navi besides software?

i doubt there is a difference between install kits. if you got an 08 nav just make sure you give the dealership the install kit on this thread and you should be fine.

I'm looking at picking up a unit that was taken out of a wrecked evo. So I want to make sure I am getting everything. In the picture of the install kit. What it the silver box to the right of the GPS antenna?

I dont know for sure, but looks like the harddrive. I think the nav mentioned having 40GB of storage.
