It appears (and the manual seems to agree) that the phonebook in the car is completely seperate from the phones phonebook. It does suck.

Well, I'm glad I found that out because now I am not that motivated to hack up my steering wheel just for this.

I'd almost rather buy a nice Garmin GPS unit that has Bluetooth calling built in, or just get a new head unit with it. At least I have some chance of getting bluetooth calling with proper caller ID using the phones address book.

did the install and love it. Now I've gotta go to the dealer and get the bluetooth activated. Once the bt is installed and the cover attached, it looks factory. Not 'factory like', exactly like factory . Took me about 4 hours being very careful. I extended the harness with a twisted quad to install the switch next to the headlight dimmer, soldering and heat shrinking everything.
I used some plumber's epoxy to attach the b/t unit. That's the stuff that comes in a roll, you cut off a piece and knead it until it's a uniform color. I put a pad of the stuff on the steering wheel structural member that is exposed when you cut the plastic, and just pressed it on. Solid as an 'effin rock and really easy.

If anyone is skittish about trying this, don't be. The instructions and pictures are dead on.

It's even easier if you just want the audio controls. That part only took me a couple of hours going slow in the dark.

Great write-up.
/neighbors think I'm crazy soldering and heat-shrinking at midnight.

PM me if anyone has any questions or advice about this.

Why are you going to the dealer?

My BT started working as soon as started the car up. No dealer trip needed.

Awesome details!
I owned the GTS (putt putt) prior to purchasing my EVO and the GTS was equipped with the radio controls and bluetooth. That was the only loss getting the EVO.
I just ordered the parts. Good pricing on this website!!!
Thanks again!

This is a great write-up! I wanted to install the Bluetooth module in my Outlander and I see that most of this applies to it as well.

Thanks!

sorry to revive this thread but i recently installed my bluetooth on the gsr and i got the non-navi head unit. as expected it didn't work. i called the dealer to see if they can activate it for me, unfortunately they goin' to charge me $70 just for the activation.

my question is, is there anyway rather than their MUT scantool can activate the bluetooth feature? please help. thanks guys!

the last step to make this work is to move / switch some wires/terminals. there is no need to go to the dealership to make the bluetooth work.

more specifically post # 3

Do I have to do that? I didn't change my AWC to the center console. it's still intact to the steering wheel. I'm using the volume control of the head unit. Again I don't have the Navi head unit.

installed, followed all directions and bluetooth did not work. Went to dealer, 80 bucks and 5 minutes later worked. 80 was their minimum service fee.
Apparently it:
1, does not work automatically if navi is not installed from factory
2, works with navi b/c bluetooth is normally part of that trim package.

i went to the dealer today to activate it, as i seasd on my previous post i don't have a navi. to cut the story short, the dealer was unable to activate it because i don't have the audio steering controls and AWC transferred to center console.

Is this true? It sucks as well coz i still have to be charged $70 for hooking up their MUT Scanner.
