You have to go to the dealer and get your vehicle set up for bluetooth. You cant just put it in and go.

Press the Voice Activation button - then it will broadcast what you need to sync up your phone.

Yeah, I cheaped out and tried just to get the bluetooth module only but it won't work without the steering wheel controls. I need those buttons to sync up with the phone.

Ah okay now I get it. Thanks all. All synced up and ready to go. Works great and LOVE having radio controls on wheel now.

Hey guys,

So I did this mod yesterday and it went ummm, almost well. I did audio only, and put the AWC switch in the empty slot to the left of the steering wheel.

The audio remote works fine. But the AWC switch doesnt work; nothing happens when I click it, and after a few minutes I get a "Service Requested" warning in the dash. If I actually turn the engine off, click the AWC switch once, and turn back on it will have cycled once through the Tarmac-Snow-Gravel sequence. However nothing happens if I click it when the engine is running.

To put the AWC switch up there on the left I had to extend the connector that was originally just mounted under the little change box in the center console. To do this I used a security cable kit from Home Depot with two 18AWG wires inside it. I stripped the ends of all four cables to the AWC connector, and twisted them around the stripped ends of the extension cable. Naturally I needed to run two of these security cables to extend all four cables of the AWC connector. All four connections were isolated in heatshrink, and then I put a larger heatshrink outside of the two pairs of extensions. In both ends of course.

I have done extensions like this quite a bit before. I double checked the connections to make sure that the right color actually was extended to the right color at the other side, and it all seems fine. My connections were neat and seem secure.

Therefore, I am of course wondering where the issue lies. I think my connections are fine. Could it be that the re-routing on the back of the black harness is incorrect? I did it exactly as specified in this HowTo, the only difference being that my black and blue cables were located opposite of this guide (so my black was where the blue one is in this guide). But I routed them so they connect from pin 1 to 3 and pin 2 to 7. Could this not be the correct setting for some reason?

I really don't know where the issue is, but obviously I think it lies in the way the AWC switch is wired and routed. How can I troubleshoot this?

All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmm. It sure sounds like you did everything right. If I remember correctly, the wires in my black connector were the opposite of what the diagram above says too. The fact that it cycles if you push it and then restart is very weird. You extended your harness exactly as I did as well. Are you certain that you connected the correct wires on each side of the extension and didn't get anything crossed?

That seems to be the most logical explanation, so I double checked that. It seems fine. I'll check again I guess. So for the black harness, you just moved those two bottom pins two the outmost positions, so that they are aligned underneath their opposite pins?

Thanks!

OK, I doublechecked everything again, and I can't lie, everything seems like its wired correctly. I stripped off the outmost heatshrink and made sure each wire went to the correct wire at the other end.

I have no idea what may be wrong then. Here are some pics I took with my phone. They arent very good, but hey its better than nothing:

The four connections extended down in the center console

And where they meet up on the left side by the switch:

And finally a pic of the black harness and how I wired the back of it:

What on earth can it be? All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

OK, problem solved. I am not 100% sure what the cause was, but it was not my connections. I started the car with the AWC switch just hanging out, and it worked just fine. I took extra care installing it into the empty slot, and it worked fine after I had installed it. Its possible that the first time I installed it, the actual harness was budging into something and therefore not properly seated in the AWC switch.

Regardless, I'm happy

Glad to hear it. Sounds like one of the wire connectors in the plug was being pulled away and not making a good connection. When I did mine I moved the ASC button over to the left and put the AWC button on the right. Maybe that's why I didn't have any issues. That's good info for anyone else who tries this.

just got around to installing my bluetooth last night/this morning.

My dealer did everything EXCEPT the steering wheel part. Last night I decided to take out the steering wheel. Came off fine no issues. One point, make sure you have a good T30 screw driver.

You DEF need a dremel or similar tool. The plastic is thick and I tried to do it with other tools and it didnt work. Putting the switch on is somewhat hard too, but JB Weld did the job, its setting now.

I go to hook up the wheel and connect everything and BT and Audio controls dont work. The volume up moves the AWC up and mode moves it down. The lights on both switches work. I drive to dealer and they said they will figure it out next week. I am going to drop my car off tomorrow.

I am guessing they didnt move the wires in the harness.

Other than that the install was pretty easy.

Anyone used this to install the Bluretooth Module in an 09 ES/Sport? I already have the audio controls and bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel.

do you think the install is even possible without removing the steering wheel and just taking the airbag out?
