There is a cap that blends in with the base of the wheel, no wires, or metal is exposed.

This thread wins it for me! You've answered my question on how to change the "shrek-ugly" steering wheel to a "bling-er" wheel AND retain the AWC switch in a stock location somewhere else.
Excellent writeup, bro!

Just to confirm, and to make sure, u removed the connector to the AWC switch on the steering wheel, and connected the one on the center console... so either one will work, yes? (naive question.. but I don't want to trip a Error Code or anything that requires paying the dealerships gobs of cash to RESET something). So, basically no complications, no flashing messages on the dash stating that tells me NOT to screw around with the electronics or anything??

Thanks again for this!!!

anybody figure out a way to make the voice come out of the left side of the car? I have to crank the volume at times to hear sometimes.

here you go: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...1&d=1245470837

They took all the insides out of another car and sent it out to be recovered with leather and than installed it in my car. I got mine done in March 08, I told them (dealer ) I would not buy the car without it, at no cost, along with the parts for hand-free bluetooth at their costs ($368.00). I paid 36,500.00 for my GSR fully-loaded (Nav, Rockford sound), leather, keyless, and bluetooth.

This is a lot of work but can be very useful for someone who can live without a phone. Good mod and write up!

The T30 screws that hold the airbag in do not come all the way out. Just unscrew them a significant amount and start to wiggle the airbag left and right until it comes free. You might have to switch back and forth between the left and right screws while you wiggle the airbag back and forth.

It sounds like you are not engaging the T30 driver then. I would move the driver around until you feel it slide into place. Those screws are torqued down fairly tight and take some effort to break them loose. You can also try a T27 driver and it might fit in better.

If that still is not the problem then try to be more descriptive of the issue so we an do our best to help you out.

Ugh. Can someone help an idiot out? I spent a good 30 mins looking at this connector and I don't see how to undo it.

By "unclip" do you mean to disconnect this connector or are we just removing it from the aluminum strip that it is snapped on to? Can anyone explain the locking mechanism that is mentioned in a little more detail?

I'm assuming that the black horn wire is the one out toward the passenger area (it slides on to a blade and has the word "push" on it)?
