DUDE!!!its not mitsu's fault! i think i know which screw your talking about...the two black ones near the front of the car right? its a push in screw! i had the same problem... when you screw it out dont put too much pressure on to the screw (as in dont push down on it) and keep twisting counter clockwise

I know what you're talking about.

I'm referring to the two silver bolts on the air box near the MAF sensor. The bolt on the right just keeps spinning. The left one came out like a champ.

try getting a flathead screwdriver in between the MAF and the Air box and press toward the MAF then have someone else unscrew the bolt.

Good tip. This usually works on most applications. I tried this, but no luck. The metal piece on the inside of the plastic just keeps spinning.

hmm possibly some needle nose pliers or best thing to do is take it to the dealer and just ask them to get it off for you. Last straw I would take an open end wrench and try pulling it out. IF it's spinning it's because the screw in part on the intake box itself is loose. Try pulling at the box end see if these help you out.

I have a question (I am still learning how to mod cars)..
How hard would it be for someone who has never installed a cone air filter before?
I had no idea what you guys were talking about when you said stuff like creating holes or fabricating heat shields...

and I got the factory reflash for the car, so if I installed the intake would I still have to disconnect the battery to get the gains? or should I not do it?

Man I feel you, just went out and got an AEM filter and both of those bolts wont come out. It doesnt make sense, if the bushings were loose on the box wouldn't it just pull off, but it isnt??

I just installed the cone air filter (sounds sexy) but I had the factory reflash, should I reset the battery? The car makes some weird noise when I turn it on, dunno if its because of idle...

I had this same problem. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the brass insert out of the plastic airbox without drilling from the inside of the airbox and pressing it out. See attached pics. I tried working it out without drilling, but the insert has a plastic undercut feature (most all of them do) that the plastic shears against when you try to pull it out. I drilled from the inside, and pressed the insert out with my H frame press. Granted, not everyone has an H frame press in thier garage, so you can probably press it out in a vise or some other method you can concoct. Maybe you can even tap it out with a hammer.

I drilled a hole with a 3/8" bit and used a 1/4" socket extension to drive it out using the press. To reassemble it I'm hoping to use two part epoxy, but the plastic is polypropylene, and most epoxies won't stick to PP very well. If the two part epoxy won't stick to PP, then maybe seal it up with 3M 5200, or just go to the cone filter immediately, or find a new/used airbox. For me this is only temporary as I'll be installing a cone filter eventually anyway.
