Lancer Evolution XI goes hybrid [merge]
if the USA is any indication, you have to ask, why the heck does mitsi sell cars?
I'm guessing it has more to do with Japanese culture than anything else. Outside devotes like people here, mitsubishi cars don't offer anything positive. By that I mean, they don't have a claim on quality,
like honda or toyota, and price point isn't part of their game. Half of the car buying public wouldn't even consider a mitsu product.
It may be that their best bet is going for the game changer.

if you think diesel = slow, you're obviously not an ALMS fan. In the LMP class, the diesel Audi R10 and R15 TDIs and the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP were so much better than all of the petro burning cars in their division that the league had to regulate the diesel cars to let the petro guys have a chance to compete. Even the crappy 1.9L TDI jetta's in the EU are putting down about 250ftlb stock and getting 45mpg.... and thats not even a performance configuration. I like the change, especially compared to a petro hybrid evo they were toying with earlier.
there are also rumors of the STi going turbo diesel...
I honestly wish everyone offered turbo diesel options... gobs of torque and awesome fuel economy. If they can be just as fast and tunable, then I'm all for it... but not the hybrid part

The Evo is trending in the wrong direction. It's becoming like the Nissan 300Z TT of the nineties, full of technology, but heavy and expensive.
For the North American market a 2.5 liter turbo diesel with 350 hp and 400 ft-lb in a 3200 lb car would be a blast. Keep the awd simple, but make it rear wheel biased. Give an SST and a 6-spd manual option without all the other luxury add-ons.
For a price under $35K, that kind of car wil take market share from Mustang, Camaro even BMW and Corvette buyers.

i hope mitsu doesnt do this or at least offer it as an option, they need to loose weight on the cars and add power,if mitsu goes this way ,then my next sports car will be a shelby cobra!

Horsepower and cars like the Evo aren't going to exist for much longer. I'm keeping my IX till I'm dead at this rate!
