So just little update, I have been running the tephra V7 with my evo rom for a little while now. Idle has risen maybe 100-200 rpms and has completely stabilized, no more bouncing rpms. I was getting massive knock when I initially interpolated my maps into the evo rom. I have since been able to remove most of that knock, one thing that made a major difference for some reason was disabling Lean spool despite not having much of a afr change. My timing is wayyy low right now though I am afraid if I raise it to where it should be my knock will come back so I need to figure that out. Other than that the car is running great, only mod I have used so far is the CEL flash on knock which works beautifully lol. BIG MAPS is very awesome to have, my fuel map went from 140 cells to 750!!!!!! Hows that for more resolution

Small update:

Have been running the evo rom for a couple weeks now. Running mint other than have not had any time to fine tune it so I basically have just been driving like a "normal" person lol. Cannot really go into much boost without hitting knock. So until I can get some high octane race gas and confirm if the knock is real or not AND have the time to tune for whatever I discover, I flashed back my original tuned rom so I can at least enjoy the car until I can work on the evo rom more.

Hey anyone have a jdm 3 bar map sensor or omnipower map sensor they can sell me cheap? I am going to go SD and plus I can log boost then too but mostly I will finally not have to worry about maf scaling anymore!!!!

I have found them online for $105.99 was hoping I could find one around $70-$80. Thanks for the heads up crf. Should be hooking up with a guy this weekend and have him check out my build. Its nice to have someone who does it for a living and is good at it look at your work to make sure everything is correct. I have the utmost faith in myself but still doesn't change the fact that I still consider myself a noob and being my first time ever doing this never hurts for a second set of trained eyes.

What's "SD"? I'm guessing it has to do with a different way of metering incoming air, that is boost sensitive?

Also, I didn't quite catch the knock problem. Have you decided it's a "more sensative rom" or that there truly is knock (and why would that be specific to the evo rom).

SD is speed density its a mafless setup changing a maf signal to a pressure and temp sensor.

The evo rom knock settings are definitely different I've found them in a stock rom and the single gain is 3 compared to an evo's 2. The triple gain is different too being 5 instead of 7. The lancer only has one multiplier which is 18 compared to the three settings in the evo of 13,18,20.

He could duplicate the lancer by setting all the multipliers to 18, the single gain to 3, and the triple gain to 5 and see what happens.

So far, that's what I've sort of gathered from following the thread. Like you said, the evo monitors knock differently. So, does this mean that the evo is "too sensative" or the standard is "not sensative enough". It seems "safe" to set the multipler to 18, like the standard ROM, if he isn't already set to it. I can't rmember what 03lances said about it earlier, I thought he was just reducing timing until the knock went away, so settings are probably default then?

I've got to go read up on what "single gain" and the multipliers are, brb (who needs work anyways...)!

Wait...back to speed density then, so what's the motivation for going to that setup? Does it assist in running VTA blow offs, or does it increase the ability to tune/more reliable tune?

Last edited by HornstarBU; Jun 2, 2010 at 11:30 AM. Reason: Question about speed density

Essentially the evo is more sensitive but only in certain cases.

These seem to be low rpm and low noise knock from the looks of it. The evo appears to be slightly more resistant to knock noise at high rpm and high noise.

Thanks RS I was unaware this was determined I must have missed that somewhere I will change those knock values in my evo ROM and see what happens.
HornstarBU yes I was just lowering the timing to combat the knock but I knew something was not right as my timing was far below normal and still getting counts of 7 8 9. Yes one benifit of SD is the ability to run a vta bov but my main reason for wanting to do it is to take maf scaling out of the picture which I think is what plagues me lol. To be honest my tune is pretty good and most would probably call it a done deal but maybe I have OCD when it come to my car idk haha.

I found the knock settings when i was doing the big maps conversion for the auto guys.

Ok so I am trying to research this over in the ecuflash forum but maybe I just dont know what I should be typing. Where do I go to change those knock values in my evo rom RS?

In the rom look for a sub section called knock control

To duplicate your old rom settings set all low, mid, and high rpm multipliers to 18
Set single gain to 3
set triple gain to 5

The rest of the settings are not important at this time.
