02 Lancer ES Turbo Project
So my new car finally came, its really sweet it came last night around 12:30 but I am going to call in sick at my new job so I can get the plates and stuff for it. So I will be able to drive around.
well awesome news the guy who I sold my car to called me "I lost his number" to figure out what kind of oil to put in it. He says its still in good shape. I told him I would buy it back so hopefully within the next 6 months I should have my old lancer back.
Since this will be my project car im going to blow up the motor and rebuild it. I was at 17 pounds of boost im going to push it to 20 psi, and go up 2 pounds every time while keeping up the timing to make some good power. Then im just going to slowly rebuild another engine and see where it takes it from there.
still keeping the goal high but just going to lower it to 400hp. just going to rebuild the bottom end and see how far the stock head takes me.
once I get it I will keep yall updated

i thought you got a cobra? why buy the lancer to blow it up as you said? just buy some evo/lancer exterior mods keep it clean, buy an evo then swap the parts over. that would be the best investment you can make
gosh lance you always give me crap lol. Im keeping the lancer for fun, I have the cobra mustang im going to pay it off and save up some money and once I do im going to trade it for an evo later down the road its just a matter of time. Right now I could use two cars just in case one breaks down and it will help me save mileage on the cobra to keep its value up. I could have gotten a higher loan if I waited but I just go promoted at my job after I got approved for the loan
that proves my point even more so, you want an evo. fine buy your car back, leave it stock get some exterior mods that will work for an evo and a lancer and once you are ready get an evo. all the while saving money from building the lancer you can mod the cobra.
Well heres a little update since I havent been on my thread for awhile.
Sold the lancer, Bought a cobra mustang then I sold that last week.
I am completing my dream and finally pursuing on buying an evo this month!!! After 6 years of debating I finally will be able to buy one and continue this thread with tuning my new car!!! I will post pics as soon as I buy it

all i can really say is to have it compression tested and leak downed BEFORE you buy anything used like an evo/wrx/sti whatever....lot of car molesters out there that will really mess stuff up............reason im saying this is that in the first week of having my wrx i needed to do a clutch and im in the process of replacing the engine because cyl 2 only has 25psi of compression and saw it still has the "original" subaru timing belt on it. so spend some money and have it done or you will be like me and in 2 years of having the car ive done a complete engine....at another 3k in cost to the vehicle.....

Don't forget that the 2003 evo's main weak point is the transfer case. The older models used spider gears opposed to having a limited slip front diff so on hard launches wheel hop tends to happens shattering the transfer case.
You should pay special attention during a test drive for excessive whining and grinding noises. Just as a note upgraded clutches tend to make a grinding like noise at certain rpm's during deceleration only and at idle. To tell if its a throw out bearing simply listen for the noise at idle and nuetral with clutch out and then put the clutch in noise should stop then.
You should go over maintance items that should have happened. Timing belt, brakes, diff oil changes, transmission oil changes, etc with the person selling the car or demand that they be done or discount the price to cover the expense of having it performed.
Very commonly modified evo's will be put back to stock without properly tuning the car back to the older parts making it incredibly knock prone! It would be advisable to run evoscan on the car during a test drive to see what the cars performance and knock characteristics are like. Its also common for the modder to just slap regular vacuum hose to the bcs module limiting boost to wastegate 11psi.
