CVT Turbo Update
I found this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/v/1Q_yWMziHYs. I remember Evo Soul said that our CVT is the same as the Nissan CVT.
I'll openly admit I hate RRM, but we're having a legitament discussion on how the CVT handles a turbo. This is a thread about RRM's kit, they have the only kit, and it's probably the most commonly used, so of course conversation is going to gravitate in that direction, but the point we are trying to get across is that the CVT will not handle any tubro, RRM's or self made. We're not hating on only RRM saying don't by their kit but go ahead and make ur own. We're saying any build on a CVT is not going to last very long.
Damn RRM fanboys.

in all honesty we tell customers who are thinking about cvt turbo the truth and our experiences, if you are cvt it is better to go with all NA mods, we have a few customers that claim over 200whp with na cvt mods. The turbo kit runs low psi and so far our customer have been happy with the power increase but the price per hp might not be for everyone.
lol we should stop feeding the troll. his goal is to get this thread locked so we can no longer voice our opinion and discuss maturely.

Uh, wow.
I commented because I wanted to know from the producers of this product, I guess 1, why produce such a limited product, 2 is the cvt really that limiting?
I already think the markup on that kit is crazy, I mean it should at least include the trans cooler.
My concern is that your company is knowing selling something you know isn't 'practical', and saying there's low risk.

CVT is limiting. We made this because people requested it. Buy a kit and I will give you a cooler. Otherwise, these are made to order and took 2 years to complete this setup and 2 blown transmissions to learn the limits. Easy to sit on the keyboard and judge 3 posts in. Any kit we sell, we fully disclose everything we know about the risks. Some guys want them for go and some for show so we know from talking on the phone with them at length about. For the most part we encourage N/A mods for CVT guys but we answer a lot of calls from people that all have very different expectations and or requirements. Hence it is available.

What a lot of you guys dont get is that RRM makes a lot of parts for lancer/ralliart specific cars that no other company can offer. The practicality of the product is arguable due to the weak link in the transmission. Rob has said that from the get go. He has openly expressed his concerns with the transmission and made the kit to be as reliable as he can make it.
His company made this product because it was asked for by the community. Now that he has done it you want to complain about the price?
Wake up people.
Due to the fact that RRM has spent THOUSANDS on R&D and is the first company to come out with car specific kits(that i know of) the business needs to recoup their losses.
This is not a cookie cutter kit that many company's offer at a lower price.
If you don't like the price then don't buy it.
I have cleaned OT posts.
If you want to have a mature debate then have at it.
If i have to come in here again i will be issuing points.

It is risky to the trans not the motor but everyone knows that. Call me and we can discuss your options, budget etc.... I am sure we can get you going fast one way or the other. Call and ask for me.

I might be willing to take this one on just gotta figure out what is happening with my sponsors for next years budget to see if revisiting projects for the Lancer is possible. I am moving on to the EVO X and Ralliart next. I would like to help where possible as well. I have worked with a group in Asia already in developing a Supercharger kit. They have blown 4 CVTs, and crippled 4 in their testing. Results were that its not stress that frags the Belt, its heat build up. After sticking with a few gold rules, they have operated the remaining two cvt setups without problems.
Reduce heat, and you certainly increase the life of your CVT overall.
1) Better fluid will reduce heat by reducing friction. Eneos or Redline CVT fluid is preferred.
2) DO NOT USE D. PERIOD!!! Dynamic gear changing will continue to cook your belt and related components. Fixed Gear Operation is Mandatory! NO EXCEPTIONS.
3) After heavy racing allow engine to cool before you turn it off.
But I am all for it

If its heat build up that is causing the problem is their A way to maybe link up 3 or 4 tranny coolers to the tranny for extra cooling i'm kinda thinking outside the box here so don't mind my thinking habits :P
