what i don't get, what's the point of having a High and then Low octane map?

I run 93 all the time, so should I just cancel that out totally.

This is an engine safety feature. Ideally, you would always run in the High Octane Map. If you notice, the timing is more aggressive and the fuel AFRs are leaner, all things to increase your power. But let's say its a very hot day, or worse, you get a bad tank of gas. You're driving around and you start to get knock. If you didn't have a "Low Octane" map, you'd continue driving under conditions meant for good gas but you're knocking like crazy and then, BOOM! There went your engine. So the low octane maps are there to fall back on when the engine gets into trouble. This is why when someone tunes you're car, the High and Low maps should not be identical, despite what some may argue. It's there to preserve your engine.

An update about my flash. So I reflashed my ECU tonight for the first time ever! (I was saying a lot of prayers) and....... it worked! I was able to lean out my top end that usually is pig pig rich. I actually leaned it out a little too much but its good news. Now I know I can adjust the values. After I get this tuned up right, I'll throw in my larger injectors (440cc) and remove the MAF restrictor, up my boost to 10 or 11 PSI and tune away! I did a quick log which I'll study and see if I was also able to eliminate some knock. I wasn't able to really test it since its been raining all night and I didn't feel like hydroplaning and wrecking on my first test run However, I think everyone in the Lancer community should be thrilled at this new tuning possibilty. Stay tuned!

I'm going to buy the cable this weekend when I get paid and save my Lancer's map and tinker with ECUFlash.

Yea Z!!

Glad you finally managed to pull it off, and that I could help a little bit.
Please keep me up-to-date on your rom maps too.

Looking forward to seeing the rematch with that dyno!!!

Guess I can sell my Piggy Back now... haha. This is better and I won't have to worry about the ECU learning. Since I'll be hacking the ECU Directly... and not making it think otherwise.

Thanks, EvoGLH! - It was you who gave me the hope and vision! I can't wait to get the car tuned and actually see how it feels to be "really" turbocharged!

Exactly - no need to "learn" anything, no disconnecting battery, etc. etc. I can't wait to try out the injector scaling!

So how much gain would you expect from a base lancer? How much risk is involved with changing the maps (in other words would i have to change the maps back and forth frequently to avoid certain problems)?

You won't have to change frequently but you would have to keep trying different settings and log all your changes until you find the perfect tune for yourself

As to what to expect, it all depends on your mods. This is gonna benefit us turbo guys alot but also N/A's. It's always good to be able and squeeze as much power safely from a lancer, no matter what mods you have no?

So for changing maps frequently, you can make many maps for different driving conditions, right Zack? That would be smart.

MSCC04 remember, this isn't a toy, you can seriously do great damage if not done properly. Take baby steps is all I say.. that's what I plan on doing.

Yeah I wasn't planning on messing with the maps myself. I was hoping someone would release a map for the N/A. I just don't want to screw up my engine after changing the map due to ignorance.

Keep me posted on all of this! I'm currently boosting happy at 7psi but injectors and 8-9psi sounds tasty, especially with this creamy ECUFlash sauce. Z keep me informed. If ya get the Rom and flash workin right for upgraded injectors and stage 2 boost levels i'll roll with ya on this. I've always been partial to a flash. Easier to maintain, Car behaves like stock, and you have the option to flash it right back to stock in the event that you take stuff off

So upon getting the cable, we cannot start changing maps yet, or can we? You said we'd have to wait for the definition files to be cracked or.... is this something that we can do now?
