You can switch oil back and forth. Doesn't matter. If it did matter there would be no semi-synthetic oil since its a mixture.

Evo 8 = sythetic oil
Regular lancer = regular oil
That is how I see it.

(Oh yah, I'm not kidding about the Wal-mart filters either. If you don't know you betta read up on 'em.)

When you drive a Evo you are commited to its maintenance, I don't diviate from what is recommended. Mitsubishi calls out for 10w-30 Mobil one full synthetic and I am 200% sure almost every Evo owner on this forums uses Mobil 1.
On the Lancer issue, I am sure that engine can accept other lesser quality brand and run fine but I would still stick with some decent brand. If you think putting Wal-mart subsidiary oil manufacturers makes your car run good then all the power to you specially if you can save the money...

I'm not an automotive specialist but I bought my car with the intent to enojy it and to do all required maintanence to it that's recommended by mitsu. I don't drive my car for show but rather I'm a daily commuter just like you. 30 miles to work and 30 miles back. I don't buy "best bang for buck" items just to satisfy myself. Instead I use mitsubishi approved items or item's i've done research on beforehand.
But you have an economy car and that's what you look for economy, ok fine. Cheapest oil on the market might do it but it might fail elsewhere, like in lubricating your internals the proper way, over heat your engine, or anything else.
I don't look down on you cuz you have a Lancer, i look down on you cuz you go for best bang for buck deal.

That is pretty odd. The only problem is you switched from a synthetic to a regular oil which every body swears is a BIG no no. On top of that, you probably can't tell it but I guarantee you lost performance by switching from the Mobil 1. As much as I'd love to get an extra 2 mpg(Lord knows that is a lot for me, seriously) I am not going to exchange mileage for power and durability. I'd go right now and stick the Mobil 1 back in if I were you.
Also, I've heard Royal Purple is by far the best oil on the market but I've heard several stories of people acquiring oil leaks after running that in their cars for a while. And it's also $8 a quart!!
