I've seen people say they'd rather have a tuned Evo than a C6 Z06 or a 911.

They're so completely different. The Sky Redline and S2000 are a pretty good match, really. Even though the numbers don't seem equal, their performance will end up pretty comparable. The S2000 will still be a better AutoX and track car, I suspect.
I genuinely believe that all this negative reception to both the Solstice and the Sky is because of the stigma many people associate with their respective manufacturers. Lets be honest, Pontiac has been heading in a downward spiral for many years, and even the GTO had such a poor reception the company hardly gets looked at. Saturn has always been such a family oriented company that to now throw in a sports car is making everyone wonder if Saturn is capable of selling to the correct market or later to support it properly with the required dealer maintenance services. Most people will never realize that neither Saturn or Pontiac designed these cars, but their names alone will be the cars downfall.
If Opel or Vauxhall had entered into the US market with these cars, I do believe that these cars would be getting much better word of mouth press from everyone simply because they are not either Pontiac or Saturn. I think they are both very good looking cars, and based soley on specs, have the capability to be semi performance vehicles. Being roadsters, they definitely will make for fun rides.

The regular Solstice has been selling extremely well. I think there are enough people with faith in Pontiac to sustain the sales GM needs to make money on the car, at least for a couple of years. Saturn is a different story; Saturn has a very 'cheap' image and I think a lot of people will balk at a $30,000 Saturn much like people balk at a $30,000 Hyundai.
The GTO, while a pretty decent car for the money, never did anything for most buyers. I think a lot has to do with GM's mentality at the time that simply calling it a GTO would bring people in, which never happened. It doesn't look like that'll be a problem with the Solstice.

And I did pick the S2000 and I have no regrets.... buddy

GM is hoping the sky will be the hit that the Miata was in the learly 90's. I think it is one of the best ideas GM has had in a while.

The majority of owners I know and have seen are older men and 18-30 year old men. Not that there aren't the occasional women drivers.
In my opinion there will probably be more women driving this Saturn than the S2000.
It's sad that the stereotype of the 2 seater convertible sports cars, i.e. the miata, s2000, and others are simply labeled 'chick cars'
