btw, I know you had a 10 before so I 100% understand why you are looking at a 8/9 this time but for what it is worth....

I have owned both, tracked both. I HATED the 10 when I first purchased it, compared to my 8. Then I did some suspension mods and tires and a good alignment, I enjoyed it better. Then I tracked it. The 10 is just as quick on track, if not slightly quicker, mod for mod, compared to my 8. You just have to drive them a little differently to get their full potential.

However there are serious problems with the 10 when you start going fast with it. The gaw damn fuel tank being the biggest. You HAVE to get a surge tank setup if you track it and are quick and the car is setup for grip. Which, if doing it right, is easily $1000+.

Just as an FYI.

I have long legs compared to the rest of my body, so either my knees are in my face or I'm reaching way far for 5th.. and the steering wheel. Evo X is more suitable for a more Japanese short legs to torso body

What about a Mirage --> Evo 5/6 conversion? When done correctly they are very nice. You should be able to do the whole thing for 10-15k. I can put you in touch with someone who can do the build (the right way) if you want.

Guy in Vegas just sold his Evo 9 for a R32 GTR. He's only bought a few parts for it so far and he's commented on how expensive stuff is for it...lol

What a horrible idea. Keep both? Yes. But I'd never sell a 9 year old car to buy a 25 year old rust bucket.LOL
I was tempted, though. A local guy has one for sale. Too bad it wasn't California compliant.

Have you looked at salvage titled FRS/BRZ's? That might be a good way into a cheap newish RWD platform.

God knows there isn't a shortage of salvaged ones now...

They also have some shortcomings when tracking but nothing too big. Cooling, injector seals, brakes.

I see a shiat ton of them at track days now, to the point where it's almost annoying. They are like Porsches at track events in that there are only two modes of their different owners. Either slow as hell or fast as heck. Nothing in-between.

I have, the thing that scares me are the injector seals. The thing is, there's no fix, just replace is with the same new seal that can just as easily go bad again. If there was a fix for this, it'd be my leading contender.

It can't be that crazy if I see so many at events. Have you really deeply looked into it?

from what I gather, its not exactly common. but there's no way to know if its an issue with the car or not other than if it pops up. the other thing, buying a wrecked car you don't really have a chance for a thorough inspection for it. As I'm not a dealer myself, I basically call a guy and tell him to bid on it for me... So I could get lucky and get a car without this issue, or I can get screwed and get a car with this issue. and the thing is, in my mind, if a car has bad seals, new ones will just go bad again.

I watched a vid on youtube of a guy changing these, there seams to be a lot of room for error also when putting these on, which I think has a lot to do with the initial problem...
