Surely there is some sporty BMW seat one could swap in that would play nice with the safety system?

Maybe something like this?

disclaimer: I'm pretty ignorant about most things BMW, so I'll admit what seems reasonable to me could be a fairy tale in reality.

I was looking at the M GT seats, which are Recaro Sportsters with airbags and even have heating, but they cost a fortune! Also not as snug as real race seats. More like Evo 10 seats.

Those look like the Recaro Sportster CS. Had them in one of my previous cars (factory seat with airbag) and loved them.

The Sportsters with airbags cost like $2500 each

airbags are kind of crazy expensive. I'm really surprised we haven't come up with something better than a bunch of explosives pointed at ourselves.

That honestly isnt bad. Could probably sell the stock seats for decent money to recoup some of the cost.

In the end, I wanted a real race seat. The sportsters are more like Evo 10 seats. Really nice, but not a race seat.

If this was a daily I would probably go for the Sportsters.

hahah so much for not modding the Mustang that “has everything you need already”

lmao
the car originally came with them, I just didn't get them. If purchasing a missing OEM part is a mod then yes. I modified the car. or, if the fact that I bought aftermarket instead of another set of OEM then you win that one too.
You got me.
Side note: you should see pictures of what the tires look like without the camber plates installed. It's brutal lol

I kind of like the fact that I can both downplay the car when I want and call it "just a Mustang", but it also is an attention magnet for car enthusiasts and other Mustang owners. When I drove the car off the lot, another orange S550 Mustang happened to drive by as I was waiting to turn and his passenger SCREAMED out the window "LOVE YOUR CAR!!!". That made me smile. Orange is kind of the opposite of leadfoot gray, but I'm used to bright color attention from my bright yellow S2000 (aside: did you see that a yellow CR just sold for $122k on BaT--crazy!). My white Evo is the most tame looking car in the garage!

Looking forward to tracking mine, but cringing at the cost of a Simpson Hybrid S since I can't use my HANS in a stock seatbelt. The tires are also shockingly expensive. Oh well. Pay to play I guess.
orange is my favorite color, but wasn't an option for me. Chicks in their 20s love this car. Weird.
I'm running the Schroth QuickFit Pro. It's amazing.

I have the Shroth Quick Fit Pro. It's awesome

It's a race seat man. You can get lumbar cushions, which I will do if it really kicks my *** driving to/from the track.

I got one for my Sparco. It's REALLY nice to have.
Only $30 but with $100s.

I've driven hundreds of hours in a Racetech 4009, usually after 4-5 hours I'll toss a hoodie behind me for some lumber support. Race seats in a street car aren't all that bad, the worst part is getting over the bolsters to get in or out.

I had a Brey Krause seat bracket in my E46 that allowed a race seat to be used with the factory electric slider setup.
