Comprehensive Evo STU prep thread?
I have done all the mods on my own with basic tools from Sears. Shocks/Struts were pretty easy to install. Exhaust mods were pretty easy too. If you don't mind to get a little dirty and have a good set of metric tools, I would say doing basic STU mods are not much more difficult then changing the brake pads. You would need a good tuner like Chad or Dynoflash to get the maximum HP allowed for the class though. It's fun to be your own mechanic and race at the same time. Enjoy!
Dave Mac
Davemac, Mike N and his co-driver took first and second. The course is about 10 seconds faster than the test and tune back in March. I took 7th out of 20 in my first "real" autox event and finished 2.5 seconds back of Mike N. My RE01s held up really well with -2.75 front and -1.5 rear camber on 17x9 Team Dynamics with toe at 0/0. Of course I was slower than the top guys but the car set up was great and very neutral. Any oversteer during the run the car pretty much corrected itself. These Evo's are truly great cars.
I also did my first FATT at Summit Point on Friday and I ran the same setup and tire combo as the autox event. I was able to hit 135 at the end of the straight away consistently and the handling was just awesome.
Hope to check your car out at the May event and hope to see some wins in the STU for the Evo this year.

Dave Mac and dannykao, I'm local and also a regular WDCR SCCA autocrosser. I've been autocrossing a maroon Camaro here for about 5 years and just switched to autocrossing my white 04 Evo RS in SM (#77).
For the test and tune and yesterday, I was on stock suspension, 235 street tires and stock alignment. I'm in the process now of trying to select a coilover set up, tires and wheels, and find a shop to align everything. Dave Mac, did you go with the KW v3s or the KW clubsports? Where are you getting alignment/corner weighting?
I thought yesterday's course was a good one for the Evo. Lots of places to put down power, though that seems to be the case with every local SCCA course. We're lucky to have such a great lot to have events in.
Next time I'll try to stop by and say hello.

Rich-
I went with the KW V3's and custom spring rates from GTWORX; talk to Myles or Andrew. I'm getting my alignment done at my dealership who sponsored me (York Mitsubishi). I don't have the suspension on yet but it will be for the next WDCR event.
Tires, you should go with Kumho V710's (285's or so) and 17x10 or 18x10 wheels. I think you can get 5Zigens in that size. I think there's a large SM thread on here too. Unless you were thinking of converting to STU.

Rich, Davemac,
I was working at the timing bus when Rich ran. I could have taken a cone off and Rich could finish higher...
Just kidding of course.
I have been pretty much setting up the car according to Davemac's spec and I really think it works well for me. The only thing I am looking for now is trying to find a set of RPF1 17x9.5 with AD07 shaved. I am running 17x9 Team Dynamic 1.2 with RE01r's unshaved. Suspension is a set of used Ohlins coilover that I picked up in the EVOM classified.
Rich, come back to STU. It would be great to have a large EVO presence to show up the STIs and M3s, and not to mention carrying the tires around is somewhat of a pain.

Some STU Evo pictures from April 22nd event at Fedex Field, DC SCCA Region:

And one SM picture for Rich. Not sure if I am breaking the thread rule, and looks like Rich is in the TRIPOD mode:
