A full size truck will tow the evo. It's just a matter of how much it's gonna slow down going up hills.

I just don't wanna fork out cash and be disappointed. I hear conflicting reports on v6s. I only need to tow 4500lbs or so. Taking my time up hills is fine, as long as I'm not cooking the trans.
I've been doing research on tow capacities, but info is all over the place. Info from everyone as far what they are using is priceless.

I probably wouldn't get a V6, especially the old 3.4L, that's asking a lot out of it. A newer Tacoma with the 4.0 would be fine.

I think it went LTX, LTX M/S, LTX M/S2, and now the LTX M/S Defender's.

http://www.michelinman.com/US/en/tir...-ltx-m-s.html#

I believe they are now 90k mile tires. For a 3/4 ton throwing it into corners as I sometimes do I have no sidewall issues. This is also due to eload's and being 70psi but hey lol. I got a set of C loads for my dad's F150 ecoboost as well. I rotated them at 12k miles and you can barely notice any wear. Read the reviews, you really can't beat it as a do most everything tire.

Depends on pricing. My buddy scored the '09 Crew Cab/TRD/v8 blah blah for about 8k with high mileage. He's put another 60k on it without a hiccup. Toyota FTW.

Heel2toe it's the 2014 Ram with the first year of the 8 speed. I bought it used and loaded but Mopar still let me buy the lifetime warranty because the truck was under 48k miles/48 months. Only my 3rd time towing but I had 0 issues what so ever, no swaying from the trailer, no brake issues, no issues with power going up the mountains. It was pouring rain on half the trip to buttonwillow from Vegas. Oh also almost no difference in comfort of the cabin while towing either. Really couldn't be happier with the choice.

Ahh gotcha 2014 nice! Yeah I hear good things about the 8 speed; that's the one thing I wish my truck had but that wasnt a deal breaker for me considering finding something even remotely close to what I wanted took me forever.

Well I officially have a trailer, wahoo!

It needs a little TLC as far as new tires, 2 are shot and 2 are newish but I think Ill buy a set of 4 and keep the other two as spares. I also need to fix a couple lights, the tongue jack is crap, so think I will opt to upgrade to an electric unit.

Given that Im trying to make a list of everything I need to purchase and Im wondering what are your thoughts on a weight distribution hitch? It seems like a good concept in theory however I question if it's recommended for my setup? Im thinking I should load the evo on the trailer and see how much she squats? In theory the air suspension should level it back out but things don't always seem to make sense in the real world.

usually less than 6k doesn't need a WD hitch. depends on how much tongue weight you're carrying and how the truck handles it.

Is there a trick to measuring tongue weight? I don't have scales sadly but wondering if there is a rule of thumb. Looking at hitches Im guessing its roughly 10% of the trailer weight if loaded properly?

The trailer I purchased is a Big Tex 70Ch 18' which according to their site weighs 1920#. Add in the 12000# winch and box call it 2 and the evo is currently around 3160(now time to really start getting that pig down in weight). But at that Im certainly under the 6000# weight and probably very close to the actual weight of my truck which I believe is 52-5500#

Regardless, I need to pick up a hitch so I can either keep it simple and go with a fixed drop hitch and ball, or go with an adjustable for a lil more money or possibly even go for the WD. I guess the question is aside from the extra complexity hooking it up is there any downsides to going WD?

There are a few methods.

In you pic, it looks like the hitch needs less drop, so the trailer is angled up a bit more. Then load the trailer so that the trailer sits level, and squats the truck. That usually a good rule of thumb.

Oh boy lots of reading to do, lol!

So thats how I had the trailer set up to drive home. I thought I was going for as level as possible? Or are you saying just in the context as if I were then about to load the evo on the trailer?

The thing that I need to establish is that I have no idea how the truck will behave once I load the car on it as the suspension should compensate for the extra load and end up back at where it was prior.

Trailer should be level when loaded, or pretty close to it. That's the point of having drop hitches, to get the trailer to sit level when loaded and hooked up, with proper tongue weight.

OK that is what I thought. So in that case given that I was just driving the trailer back to my house I think I had it sitting correct then. Kewl.

So Im making a list of things I need to pickup to get the trailer where I want it to be. As mentioned Ill be buying a set of tires for it. Any feedback on these bad boys? The price is right and they seem to be popular, not that it makes them good.

All I know is the size I need is a 205/75-15

Amazon Amazon

Im also probably going to get an electric tongue jack since mine seems uber stiff. Ill try spraying some penetrating oil to see if there is simply some corrosion in it but if I must replace it I mind as well upgrade right? Any feedback on those?

When the trailer is empty, how it's sitting doesn't really matter.

I wouldn't get an electric tongue jack, just get a quality screw jack. Your is likely either bent from hitting the ground, making it hard to turn the handle, or it's full of corrosion.
