2014 STU Discussion!
Also I see that Mark Hill is signed up. Is he on here or is anybody in his region able to see if he's legal this year? Last year he had boost mods and should have been protested. Would hate to see him show again illegal. He's also got full 40 point going into the Pro.

If he is on evoM, he's likely in the SM or ASP areas... not the STU thread...
Isn't this when someone is supposed to say "shiz just got real"?

The sky has fallen if case you missed it. I've raced against him (5 times) with the Z and I've only won once (Pro)....if you still cant see it, well not sure what else to say. Ignore my times from the 2nd place results and the gap between 1st and 3rd is HUGE- fact. Sorry but the M3 wouldn't have happened if I had a ride for 2012

Are you not going to Nats? I don't see you signed up.
As a side note about tires... Do y'all really want more tire? More grip would likely lead to more wear and tear. From what I know the Evo is already more difficult to maintain.
Cheers,
Rob

Geoff, I feel your pain it sucks to lose. I sincerely do. Why not try making friends with Brian. He's a great guy. See if Gretchen would be up for some back and forth testing with her car. Brian knows evos and how to be nice to them. Heck, the data from your '03 would be super helpful. It would take the drivers mostly out of the car vs car equation and we would have two great drivers giving the community data it needs to help make a well educated decision. Like I mentioned in the other post it seems like some data has been gathered to start an educational discussion. Let's take it further.
Someone from the STAC has already posted thrust curves. (I tried to reproduce taht chart using jrho's spreadsheet, but I couldn't match it without giving the Evo 310 wtq, which would be a neat trick in an STU legal car)
One thing I haven't seen a lot of is real world acceleration / lon-G and lat-G numbers from various surfaces. I would be super interested to see what a Z does laterally in a sustained sweeper vs what a buggy does. I generally ignore this stuff when I'm looking at data, and focus on the lines and where I'm losing/gaining time, but I definitely have some. I don't delete anything

I think weights and widths and heights and such are all pretty well out there.
And we know how it's gone on the national circuit with a bunch of experienced folks in well prepared cars.
Anyway.. happy to help.

The fact is, you and BP have not raced heads up on the only surface that really counts, Lincoln. And until that happens, it will all be speculation. Yes, the results up to this point matter. But you've been doing this long enough to know that it's the big show that counts. And anything can happen there.
Some would say that your one victory is proof enough of the Evo's competiveness. And the fact that there are other boost buggies winning other national events. It's a shame that classing doesn't take every region, every surface, every lot, and every course into account. Because I assure you, there are plenty of places where the RWD cars at a disadvantage. What would happen if we were back at HPT?
I drive both Evo's and 350's reasonable well, don't have a dog in the STU hunt and will ***** myself out for the sake of knowledge! I still hold true to my initial assumption that I would do an evo before 350 for STU, but the c5 is "the" car IMO. Evo's don't sweep worth a poo versus the 350, though.

Otherwise, out of curiosity - what is the reason for the boost controller ruling? I'm not asking about increasing boost, but just using a manual boost controller vs the stock BCS? Is it that we would get a better boost curve/hold boost better with an MBC?
Because then your boost is no longer stock.
