It's been a while since I was on here, sorry I didn't see this earlier. I managed to safely free my sensors. It required sacrificing the stock spindle, which at this point is worth a lot less than the sensor itself. I made 2 cuts on the inner side with an angle grinder and chisel+hammer off the metal. That exposed approx 50% of the sensor and the rest is patience, lube and prying. 2hrs work for the rears. I can take a picture if you want.

quick tip since I just did this. dont spin the driver side axle once you remove the cover or else you might struggle putting back the cover

Yeah the diff can be swapped without unbolting the tcase from the trans. I was under the impression you had to remove both output shafts from the tcase/trans to free the diff, but maybe that's not correct. One thing I would advise, considering the age, it might be a good idea to pick up new seals in case you encounter one that isn't reusable. Wouldn't hurt to just replace every seal you encounter with a new one while you are in there. Mission creep though......

 

My sentiment as well. Annoying to do and get all the plates lined back up correctly and hands are all funky messing with oily parts.

 

yes in fact i cannot remove/install the TC in one piece being just on jackstands.

+1 on getting extra big o-ring.
careful with the outer oil seal. thats harder to replace than it looks

 

Ok - yea what I ultimately want/need to do is swap out the front diff, so that will be the goal really.

 

if you need to remove the LSD yeah i think you may need to remove both inner shafts. for the tricky part of lining the splines for the cover to go in, you'll need to try then if it doesnt slide in, turn the DR axle/stub a little and try again. you will not get 'lucky', so dont keep trying without repositioning the splines. you could damage the big o-ring so be mindful of that part. its quite tight under there for the cover

 

best time to do the EGR/manifold block off if you havent yet

 

i got a little egr blocking plate haha. need to keep all that stuff in there so it looks like i'm emissions compliant.

long story short, there have been a few more... incidents with ATS front diffs. I thought the problem would be more isolated to big grip, big tire/r-comp, concrete and launching but that does not seem to be the case. I think there is a revised case/housing now though. Looking into it a bit more.

 

you can still keep it all compliant looking. this one blocks off at the head, so your manifold stay cooler/cleaner, theoretically
