i had rampant banging in my ats until really the first track day it finally quieted down. did you get the 450f or the 450c? i'm sure that's a setup thing too though, probably don't need more than 60% lockup on street tires

is this related to the TC breaking off mounting/bolts and spinning? I saw one of those at a local race shop FB posts not too long ago

yea so i've seen the new/case housing and it is much, much sturdier. That said, I'm not paying $1,400 for the gd thing. They sold a part that's either janky or has a major design/flaw weakness (seems this happens to everyone running one of these diffs) - or, I just go with a Cusco which has proven bulletproof reliable, and sell the ATS at a loss. It's weird that it even broke where it did, didn't think that area even saw much force.

SPAL fan (30100375) with OE-ish shroud
has anyone's slim fan die yet? this thing is so light, doesn't seem heavy duty. how many years/miles do you plan keep a unit before just swapping for a new one?
I'm trying to see if I can set things up so its easier to drain water-coolant

i think we've come across a potential reason, but still doing some digging on this. i think the diff is still viable for track days, even in old form that i currently have, but will prob switch to the cusco for reliability for autox launches. prob need a t-case refresh anyway

Diff swap would likely be easier with it out of the car. The only thing he may not be familiar with is that the driver side stub shaft needs to be removed from the transmission in order to separate the tcase from the trans.

nothing special. if you see a damaged gear tooth, are you shipping it out to tre or your mechanic will service it?

Speaking of diffs... covid self isolation and working from home finally gave me some time to finish the diff pinion bearing preload tool (measurement of bearing rolling tq).. works with the transfer pinion too with an adapter... will make adapters for the various diffs too.

How often do those rear diff pinion bearings go bad? Mine have to be bad making too much noise.

Remove nut, pull off companion flange, replace seal and bearing. Can it be done without removing the diff?

sound about time to do so, before you damage the gears.
you need to take the whole thing off the car just to remove the cover
