That sounds like a valvetrain tap, possibly a sticking lifter. Stop running that trash oil and give your car something better if you're going to track it.

Also, I'm super jealous UMC is your home track. It's on my bucket list.

Sounds like something is broken in the head. Lift the Valve cover off and have a look around. broken spring or lifter or something possibly?

Always hard to tell from a video as the sound definition just isnt there. doesnt sound like rod knock to me thats generally more pronouced of a sound

If u find nothing from taking the valve cover off give it a compression or leak down test i guess if your worried.

What oil do you recommend?

Hit me up if you come out this way. I live less than an hour away from UMC.

That's not rod knock. It's something in the valve train. Pull the valve cover and take a really close look at everything.

Amsoil, Redline, HPL, Bradd Penn, any high grade motorsport oil.

Rotella has a lot of detergents in it and any most decent tests I've seen of it show it as a mediocre at best oil. I'd run in it a tow rig of a daily driver, not anything that touches a racetrack.

I doubt I'll ever make it out to the Salt Lake area but if I do I'll reach out. Thanks dude

I've always had good luck with T6. Enough to keep me from the high dollar oils anyway.

Hopefully whatever this is isn't catastrophic.

Do you guys have any other suggestions for pads aside from ST43s? I am having a lot of trouble actually being able to trail brake due to how grabby the pads are. Just a brush of the pedal seems to slow the car down much more than I'd like.

Really? I've never had that problem with ST43 or even ST47's.

Are you running ST43 front and rear? Or just front?

With ST43 front / DS2500 rear I have no problems with initial grabbiness. Trail braking is nice and smooth.

Sounds like you're not getting them all the way up to temp.

I would agree but the OP reckons the noise went away once the car cooled down. and i dont think the cambelt would have decided to jump back a tooth again once cold haha.
