You can save most of that if you swap to a 4B11.

Ya but it'll end up costing the same at the end of ALL of the swap won't it? Then there's the several hundred billet builds breaking records, but only some rumors of a couple 4b11's? Did RS ever post anything on it?

Yup, most failures are bearing or headgasket related. If it makes you guys feel better my car fried the head gasket on its original longblock on low boost. OEM quality is absolutely better than any shop, hands down no question, but the OE also never build the car with the intention of it being heavily tracked.

I can tell you that in gr N OEM short blocks last about 1500 km before they spew out a rod..

Nothing wrong with a built block if done properly..

And bearing and head gasket failures are usually the result of coolant temps, oil temps (or insufficient viscosity) and/or detonation, right?

My goal with an OEM shortblock was to get a known quantity. Something that was built properly to OEM specs.

To be honest, I've always wanted to build my own engine. I don't mind investing in all of the right tools and taking the time to do it right, but I get nervous when I see more experienced builders on this forum running into unexpected issues on their builds.

FINALLY. Someone made a drysump that's driven off the stock oil pump sprocket/timing assembly. Price isn't too high either
