Yeah dude, tune your own ****! I mean, I understand if you can't at first but whatava. You SHOULD learn, you'll be much faster that way anyways. Its not a big deal. Think about the greats like Shepard and Rau, they both tune their own ****, madddd respectz yo.
I was at the point where I could modify my tune on the Evo - I just can't start from scratch - and I certainly can't do a big turbo and stroker. I'll try doing some stuff once I get my tune from Nate though - maybe push it a little more, or try doing like Travis for mileage.

And **** - I'll never be a great LOL!! I'll settle for not bad

P.S. that link was a little expirement that I was doing. I mean, I still drove the car home LOL. But yeah making calculated mistakes BUT learning from them is important. That is how I feel confident when I tell someone something about cars. I've done it and I learned why you don't do certain things. You can either listen to morons like me how melt pistons or learn on your own. I am unable to accept peoples opinions at times, and that time I was wrong (and I lost a motor) oh well. LOL

I 100% encourage you to try some **** yourself or ask nate questions. He is nice, just tell him dan said no secrets LOL cuz I'll tell em anyways if you ask.

Travis started from scratch with people like me helping him. He is great because he will question what I have to say and research it for himself. Don't ever take for granted what someone tells you (even being more experienced). If we all did that we would never learn new things! Travis is really good at tuning cars even if he doesen't think he is.

Yeah dood, don't ever take your learning experience as a setback. Take those pistons out and study them. Look at the connecting rod and analyze the failure. Put the plugs on an index card and spend an evening just looking at them and taking notes. Maybe I'm a little crazy but thats what I do. Every set of plugs that come out of my cars is cleaned up an indexed so that I can look at them under a magnifying glass later. Also the piston tops tell you a sh it ton about what is going on. I hope your learning experience didn't scare you and instead motivates you to tune your car better by what you have learned.

I have not gone so far with a magnify glass yet . But I have spent several hours alone in the garage just me and the Evo , just staring at the piston/rod failure. and trying to understand exactly what went wrong.

I honestly believe that it may have been a bit of a hydro lock failure. but only created by mass amounts of methanol not water. Liquid meth everywhere upon teardown , from still in the intake manifold , throttle body , all upper intercooler pipes clear down to even in the Fmic.

Denny, in racing you never know. I was racing a 120mph SRT4 a couple weeks ago which isn't a big deal to me. People were like "your gonna win, no contest" whatever whatever. I'm like dude, you NEVER know, **** happens. Granted he got schooled hard (I don't think it was a 120mph car) but still I've had misfire issues etc.... So don't ever take anything for granted.

Entertain the possibility of preigniton. Thats the first thing I thought when I heard methanol was involved. I am probably wrong, but research, learn, and have an educated hypothesis.

Just a thought.

I believe that I used too large of a meth nozzle right off the bat. I dont think I was ever atomizing the meth very well. And was basically loading up that particular cylinder closest to the throttle body which was very close to the nozzle.

Anything is possible. But the plug from that cylinder did not look like pre-ignition if anything it looked like it was the other way. In fact upon taking it out it was basicaly still saturated by meth and very very dark in color

Don't think that me tuning for gas mileage hinders my power tuning.....Its tuning 2 separate parts of the same map (wot vs. part throttle). I like making the car run better in the dd form because its what I do most and since messing with that area of the map I have made good gains in how the car drives and its fuel efficiency. But at the press of the pedal that efficiency goes out the window

Yeah I got you - all I said was I would like to tune like you did for mileage since none of the tuners do that and you ended up with some pretty damn good gas mileage.

Oh man...gas mileage...whats that? I think some Prius owner told me about it once. Yeah, Jestr's tune doesnt seem to help the mileage (i'm getting about 15.7mpg), but I can't complain with the results (i'm sure the lead foot doesnt help). 12.8 @ 109 with a God awful 1.9 60ft and 700 bucks total put into acceleration mods make me pretty freakin' happy.
