I can't comment on an AWD car. As Eric pointed out I'm racing a FWD ****box.

I have drag raced my friends AWD talon but he's the master of AWD launching not I. I could put you in contact with him but to be honest I think he'll recommend practice practice practice.

Yeah that is what i'm thinking. Start at a low RPM and work my way up. Start at like 3000 and go up. I mean it is test and tune, not like i'm in a bracket race. I have been looking online for some tips but everyone does such goofy things, and i'm using an act single disc, so i'd like to be easy on the trans.

Oh and to the general masses, sorry i haven't posted in awhile. I have been so busy with a lot of things. I am proposing to my girl so i have been really keeping funds in my pocket. Getting Rota P1's in flat black with red lip soon, and some coilovers.. :-D

Oh btw dan, i guess you do have a big piece of **** then!!! Didn't know the evo was such an engineering marvel lol

Steve if I may , share a little advice that I have found to work for me and were fairly consistent.

In all honesty it is just a seat of the pants kind of thing in the end you either can feel it or you cant.

But I would forget about the 3k rpm attempt , it will result in nothing but a BOG.

I dont know where your 2-step is but use it. Bounce it off that beotch.
Come out of the clutch quick and smooth with LOTS of throttle. Do not just sidestep the clutch , thats when you will break stuff for sure.

But a nice quick full release and if your on the throttle hard and good and above your peak TQ. you should be able to cut your 60' sideways

Another tactic some can use that does work is to slightly release the clutch to take up the "slack" in the tranny to avoid shockloading it. You can use this technique along with using the E-Brake to keep you staged without tripping the lights.

Me personally thats just too much going on. I like to get her staged , get my revs up and just feel it

Hope it helps a little. I know I am no ace driver or nothing but I have done my fair share of drag racing in the Evo

I think Dan hit the nail on the head. 3000 rpm will get you no where. One thing i've done alot of since starting auto-x and hillclimbing is launching. Just ask anyone who has ever watched. Its all about the feel. Its almost side stepping but not quite. If you start to spin all 4 tires you did it right. Alltho i'd never attempt that on anyones car but my own. Most evo guys launch like pansies. . Yes this is most of you guys. lol. Break the dam car! Just kidding, i't really not that hard.

Well lets be fair, most people will tell you that i definatly don't baby the car. And nothing has broken yet.

DAmmmmmmm i'm doomed now.

haha that was me for a good while man. Beating the snot out of it and nothing broke.

But then ah well nuff said.

It will happen at some point , but what will break who knows , as you know its all in part of racing it happens.

Jeremy , me and you are the very small minority that actually dont need our cars. so if you do break it , its not going to put you out by any means

Oh Dan, you kno that. If it breaks or crashes it only gets made better! I'm expecting it here soon. If it dosn't i'll be stunned. Hopefully it breaks before i crash it tho.

I just thought I'd chime in here about launching because I've done quite alot of it and have managed some decent 60fts without breaking anything. *Keep in mind, not proclaiming that I'm amazing, just what has worked for me thus far...

I've tried bouncing it off the 2-step, as well as, just revving up without hitting the 2-step and slipping it. Either way, its not the easiest thing to do, but like Jeremy said, if all four wheels spin, you know you got it right. It takes practice but what I basically do is just make sure that the revs are up (alot of times I just go off of sound) and let the clutch out just a little...as soon as you feel it catch and the car starts to move, GET OFF OF IT. Just let it out completely and keep your right foot to the floor. At PRP I launched so hard that the car actually went a little sideways - that felt awesome (kinda scared me a little as I wasnt expecting it). So, hope that helps...but yeah, DONT bother with 3000 rpm launching unless you enjoy bogging. It should be at no less than 5500 rpm.

Here is a quick video of my mid 1.7 60ft launch at PRP. It was clawing for traction - also a good sign.

I like launching the same way - I always use the quick slip method, I have yet to smell clutch with any launch I have done. Well that was before the recent round of parts which now I believe slips the clutch going into 4th, not a good sign that the stocker can hold

A twin is in the not so distant future for me im afraid - and the devo tuning quarter master w/ hydraulic tob seems to be the ticket, unless fidanza ever gets around to finishing there evo twin disc

Yeah, recently, I've messed up a couple of launches. Held the clutch in for a moment too long and got to smell that sweet, sweet scent of melting clutch. It sucks, but I would take that in a heartbeat over a destroyed tranny.

Going from the stocker to a twin disk and back to the another stock clutch has been a bit of an adjustment.

If you want the car to launch the twin is the way to go. Makes launching the car more straight forward.
