Tom, going up there for ALMS on July 7th. I'm going up there with a few others. We should be in the area Friday night. Kaizen Tuning is hosting a JDM coral, which I plan on visiting.

Found my student Lenny's vid. First time on Lightning, 5 sessions of instruction, second track day ever. Consistent low :20s only using 5th and 6th gears. With more seat time he'll be flying in no time, though he doesn't like going high thru lightbulb and that recent brake failure made him go slow on the straights and into turn 1 until he replaces his current setup for next track day.

10:25 is TrackDaze Jon?Jeremy?or? in the VW Golf.
16:15 Closes up on Justin and student in the M3

Just think about the mechanics of a sway bar. To limit roll, the bar applies an upward load to the inside tire and a downward load to the outside tire. The cornering force generated by a tire is a function of friction (multiple factors) and normal force to the friction surface. Reducing the normal force will result in less cornering ability on that inside tire vs a free hanging wheel with the same spring rate.

Most oems use sways because a bump hit equally by both tires results in only the springs doing work. The new hydraulic systems on bmws, etc are likely there to have a softer ride when one wheel hits a bump and then stiffen during sport driving.
i look at it this way. if your car weight 3000 lbs, the only thing you can change is where you transfer that weight during cornering and braking. you can apply 1000 lbs to each tires, or allow more weight transfer to one side or the other with soft springs and sway bars. in the end, you're still only working with 3000 lbs of grip total.

a waybar allow the spring rate to be dynamic, increasing the spring rate of the outer wheel using the spring rate of the inner wheel, basically if one wheel goes up, the other has to go up which keeps the car flat. the difference is the flex in the sway bar. sway bars are easier to adjust than changing out springs for different track. just like caster is add camber dynamically, camber increase as the wheel turn left or right.

if you look at any sport/race version of a street car, they always add stiffer springs, firmer dampers and larger sway bars. I track my car and have stiffer springs and firmer dampers but still on stock sway bar (until now). i do very thing base on practice and not just theory.

as far as autox vs track setup, they arent very similar. autox is all about extreme. huge camber because the car roll so much with quick transitions. toe out in rear to get car to rotate, toe out in front to get car to turn in. huge massive aero to work at low speed, remove front sway bar for more mechanical grip up front, run huge rear sway bar in rear to reduce mechanical grip in rear. run massively wide tires (ive seen civics with 12-14" wide tires).

everything is opposite for a track setup. too much camber and you'll loose contact patch for braking (which is important when you want to shorten your braking distance while braking from 150 mph). toe in for high speed stability and corner exit (if the car is loose). too much aero and you'll create too much drag and loose top speed. too wide of tire will create more drag at top speed.

Actually we run similar camber in front -3 and rear toe is a 1/16" in not out. The only difference in that respect is we run 1/4" tow out in front. I assume you are running near -3 camber in front with your set up Thai?
What you say makes some sense, but you are still losing grip on inside tire you are lifting from big bar. My only thought for your situation was to modify stock bars to be adjustable and try that out. If not satisfactory then you run the bigger bar, that is if you are running the higher spring rates already.
If you are running shocks that are valved for your springs you should be able to adjust shocks for the course you are driving. That would even be easier than adjusting your sb's.
Just speculating, not saying its fact. When is your next trackday that you are going to have opportunity to check this all out? Who knows, if it works for you on track maybe we have to investigate it on Autox.
Based on what you are saying and the extreme loads you see autocrossing the bars would work for our application too, but past experience makes me think otherwise (had big rear bar, stock front bar and high spring rates previously). I guess to truly test it out we need to run both bars.

^ don't think i will lift inside tires, if front and rear sways are even then there won't be tendency to tripod. that's more common i autox with quick transition from left to right. most quick transition on track are chicane.

my next track event would have been VIR next weekend. but that's not going to happen because tranny wont be back in time. and then Pocono long course two weekend from now, which probably wont happen also. TRE said it would take three weeks for the tranny. you'll have to ride with me when i have to hoosiers on to fell the body roll. or we can just bunk together at hotel next time and you can fell the body roll there too. (mad homo)

Before

After

Plane that failed miserable when landing.

He came within 10 yards of hitting the fuel truck seen in the second picture. Hitting 1000gal of 100LL at the speed he was carrying would not have been pretty. He was not affiliated with the airport or my flight school in any way.
