still undecided on e85. i wouldn't mind it, but i am not really interested in constant logging as they change fuel blends, and all the annoying things that go along with it. it might not be a bad option to have in my back pocket, but i would still need to purchase injectors. which are a bit pricey in the short term if i do not go e85, i would rather spend that money on an IC and other pieces first then maybe worry about that later if i really get the e85 bug.

Quote: sounds like you took advantage of a part out?
yeah, some rube decided to sell his evo so i swooped in and stocked up on everything i could grab.

Quote: sound like you will be ridiculed for having more than 3 mods too
damn i can't win. i was ridiculed for only having 3 mods, now i will be ridiculed for having more. i should probably just sell the car and buy a vespa. no one could possibly make fun of me for that.

Working with Jay from JSDyno this year. He just picked up some 16" FD Rx7 rims and I think he's planning on mounting Hoosier QTP's on them. Haven't really researched them yet, any input (besides various mom-related tags)?

Also, is there anyone in here with a red Evo X that parked next to me at LA Fitness in Pleasant Hills today? Looked stock, but alot cleaner than my car.

A question for the local brake experts... I just purchased some street pads for the X. Racingbrake ET300's. The instructions say not to reuse the OEM brake shims nor any other manufacturer brake shims. I'm wondering why??? Anyone have these or know anything?

i don't know about on the X for sure, but i have not yet bothered to replace the shims on my IX yet. been through 3 sets of pads so far.

i've used them on two sets of stock pads and one set of gyrodisc pads. numerous autocross and time trial events along with my daily driving and so far so good.

perhaps that particular brand of pads is shaped slightly different or something?

Well a quick google of QTP tires and i'd probably say, that since they are made for drag racing, they are probably pretty good at it. (Just my commen sense observation). Plus, Hoosier is pretty well known for not making crap.

Someone teach us about drag tires please?

Brian, I don't use the stock shims. I have done both and some say that it could make them noisy if you don't. I can't say it seemed to make much difference.

Mods for the year. Hmm, that could be a long list

Cage
Custom cut up dash
lots of gauges and switches
Alum driveshaft
mostache bar
Rear control arms
Fire system
something to cover the doors
Kognition wing

This will be mostly done by april and i will finish off the rest toward the end of May. lol.

depends on your intended purpose for them.

stock are pretty good, but they're expensive.

i'm reasonably happy with my girodisc ones, but we will see how well they fair with the type of use they get at a time trial.

the girodisc are nice because they're cheap and so far seem rather effective. the bite isn't as aggressive as stock but the stopping force seems quite comparable. less dust than stock (IX) pads too.

i had them at a couple autocross events last year and they did well at those speeds. i'm curious to see how they handle higher speeds and much higher temps though. the stock pads did quite well out on the north track, and the wilson circuit. i only really experienced fading when i was riding the brake more than i should have been.

i've thought about getting a set of track pads to swap in before i go out, but i don't think i have the tires/suspension to support anything much more aggressive than what i am currently running.

-edit-

i also tossed in some motul rbf600 a while back and have been very happy with that in combination with fresh pads and rotors.

Nice! Didn't know you were doing a new wing.

I've got some stuff to do as well.

4Pt roll bar
Sparco seat
Light seat for passeneger
harnesses
new perrin front sway bar and endlinks
spec stage1 clutch
lightened flywheel

Josh, I've been using the magic pads from girodisk as well and like them. autox, fine. Not sure about track...yet!

Thanks Jeremy. I did talk to Jay and looked up some stuff myself on the QTP's...seem like the best possible drag tire out there. I read of guys dropping .4 off of their ET's and picking up 3-4 mph in trap speed. Also read that MT motorcycle slicks work really well too, but I couldn't find anyone that has mounted them on RX7 wheels. I figure with cams, t/b, ported hotside, cop ignition, and a good tune (may switch to Speed Density) - either I will break 10's or I'll break my car. Can't wait!

The motorcycle slicks will fit on the stock 17's and deff work well..... Can't go wrong with the rx7 wheels and QTP's tho either and is a tire that is actually meant to be fitted on a car unlike the bike slicks which look crazy on the stockers but are effective

what was your 60 foot on your 11.5xxxx pass? I am sure you will be dam close. Not sure how far the 9 turbo will get you though. I think we should figure out how to cut some weight from your car without doing anything too drastic.

Pads
Girodisk pads are ****. Great initial bite but they just die after that. Stopping from anything over 90mph was a disappointment

Hawk HP+ pads worked well but clunked every time I put the car in reverse.

OEM and Ferodos are the only ones I have seen get universally good reviews. I have oem now. Other then the dust and the noise they stop like the car should. Without excuses and with vigor.
