No word yet. He usually gets back to me later on in the day (it's 8am right now). I've had a hole in the dash for some time now, and I have two gauges sitting in there behind held in place by cardboard. Believe me, I'm extremely anxious to get this panel as well.
Like Clockwork
Like I said, I would hear from him later on in the day. Here is the latest:
Well talked to the machine shop today... bad news... no quote. They apparently got hung up in some major pricing overhaul project and they didn't get to my quote yet. They are saying next week now... My apologies to everyone on this! I'll discount shipping for anyone on the order list at this point. I also need to find out from you guys as to about what is going to be the maximum tolerable pricing. I'm going to offer several options hopefully including plain/galvanized steel for those of you painting it, #4 finish stainless (brushed) stainless, and then open or closed corners. I am, as I've said before concerned about the pricing as for the run around I'm getting from the shop I have a feeling initial estimates are off by a margin. I promise it won't be anywhere near the 140 mark of that billet one you guys posted about, that's for sure! People are welcome to bail out if the pricing looks to high for their tastes, but please hang in there with me and as soon as I get this quote I will give you guys the price and you can decide what you think!
Thanks,
Steve
Thanks,
Steve
Another update:
Jason... good news.. quote showed up out of the middle of nowhere! I guess my comments hit home or something and they managed to squeeze it in for me! Anyway... so the good news and the bad news. Good news is the prices are reasonable... bad news is they aren't as cheap as I had hoped for/originally planned. If we get to 50 pieces they do (cuts cost by 60%) but that is unrealistic at this point. The worst news of all though is that the single protos that we will need for verifying the fit are about 90 bucks a piece for me, a cost that has to be absorbed in final pricing. The protos are far more expensive than production parts, but just so that everyone realizes that this takes a lot of hours and a lot of money to bring for you guys. I need to discuss the pricing with the other owners to approve a pricepoint, but I hope to have that yet tonight if all goes well.
Thanks!
Steve
Thanks!

Everyone please read the prior updates I posted a few posts ago and let me know what you think about the pricing situation. This is very important if we intend to go ahead as planned. Here is another update from Steve:
I shipped the pieces to you this morning. They should get there Monday or Tuesday according to the post office. In the box is the cardboard sample that you'll see has the scale drawing adhered to it. Check how that fits overall (you should be able to actually screw it in place) and see what lines/dimensions appear to be off when you do that. The metal one is rather rough... the width is actually pretty accurate... it varies from about 53.95mm to 54.08mm from when I measured it with a calipers. The tabs are located about right as well. So try fitting it in there and seeing if it lines up for the most part. The height is probably a little too tall, but I want to know how much it appears to be tall by. Also, there are 2 scale drawings in the package.. one of the unbent flat pattern and the other of the formed part. See how they compare if to anything you have for reference and feel free to use them to check dimensions and the like. They are exactly scale so they can be used essentially as a measuring tool.
That should cover it. I'm going to wait to hear back on those fitments before I authorize them to build a proto. That way we should hit the proto in one shot. Any word back from the forums as to what they thought on the pricing? What are your thoughts?
Have a good one!

The cost of all initial mock-up and prototype work is first paid by Steve, and later absorbed in the cost of the panels sold to us. This means if the prototype is $90, that $90 will be absorbed by anyone interested in the first run of the panels. So if only 9 are made, $10 of the end cost is for the prototype work. If you read all of the information in the thread, he is estimating $60-$70 end cost for us.

Attention Everyone:
I need everyone to confirm interest in this panel for the cost of approximately $70 if it looks "good". Please confirm by posting or PM me. I will check out the fittings of the pre-protos tonight to check the fitment. Steve wants to make sure everyone is going to buy this panel before he invests in the full prototype.
